It's pretty much like the Carolina offer three months ago. I guess that since it's the summer, a new contract for Petry must be part of the deal. Like it was for Pacioretty and Vegas.

There's a middle ground in it. Make's no sens for MTL to trade a lot of our top prospect for Reilly, it also make no sense for Toronto to trade their best prospect and a first for a 32 years old top4 dman with one year of contract.

I would look at the muzzin trade as a better comparable. With only a year left and the possibility of not resigning I would pay (2021 2nd + Duzak and greenway). Similar to what muzzin got except the 1st is replaced for a 2nd as petry has less term then when muzzin was traded.

I think Muzzin is a good comparable too, but I dont see how that suggests a 2nd rounder instead of a 1st... The leafs kinda need retention to fit Petry though, and if theres a flat cap the price for retention is going to go up. Yeah Muzzin had another year on his deal but there was no retention needed for him so I think that offsets the term difference between him and Petry. I dont think youll get Petry with a 2nd as the main piece - there would be other teams willing to pay more imo.
