Description
Very rough ideas here without any line combos done nor any other moves done like UFA, etc. Just a rough idea to see what the Habs would look like with that trade and subsequent Petry trade.

I doubt that CAR deal if still on the table now. They already traded for Skjei and also Petry has less value to them now that they would only get him for one playoffs. They were desperate for RD at the time of the offer with Hamilton and Pesce injured which also inflated the price

Maybe include one of the late 2nds going to Minny. Just because that’s the 11th overall along with Dumba for just Suzuki

Not gonna move Suzuki for Dumba or a 2020 1st... seems like he's gonna become maybe like a 70pt player

Wild not confident in finding a Suzuki comparable talent with 11th overall? Price looks pretty steep

Ultimately I doubt Guerin would do it but since I am a lot more worried about our future centers than the team appears to be, I might be inclined to do it.

It might have to be in a situation where we're on the clock at the draft and there isn't a center we like at 11.

I wouldn't do that trade for Dumba. And based on what Lebrun said, the Habs were not offered Bean and a 1st for Petry, he was just saying that the Canes were potentially willing to offer Bean and a 1st for a RD, Petry was just used as an example of a potential RD on the market

For once we have a good Center prospect, I’ll keep Suzuki
Lafreniere Byfield Stutzle Raymond Drysdale Rossi Perfetti Holtz Sanderson Lundell will be gone in the top10

You guys are getting caught up on the wrong things here. Whatever the value that ti is, (insert that value there).

What about Askarov and Quinn? Im not convinced a team like Chicago won't take Askarov with their pick. Not too mention that every single draft year, a player that was outside the consensus top 10 is taken in the top 10. We're talking about 11th here....... It just takes one team to not value a guy like Lundell or Perfetti as much for him to fall to that spot at 11th.....

We don't even know if the Minny pick will even end up 11th, they could still win the lottery and move up. (Whichever scenario the NHL decides to follow through on)

Agreed 100%. They could very well land a Suzuki at 11th this year for all we know..... Im not advocating this from a Minny perspective. I'm advocating it from a MTL perspective.

Whats more important? Dumba and a 50-60 point player or one potential 70 point guy? IMO I'll take whomever is at 11th AND Dumba over just Suzuki. That 11th pick is gonna be a good player too.

I would consider the Dumba deal it it included the Pittsburgh 1st. No way i would make this deal. I also know that i am higher on Dumba than many others...

Yep, I agree fully with you but this was just an idea I floated around based on Tansor's idea.

It could be a very strange year for the draft if it's held before the season ends. But for arguments sake lets say it's a normal draft and everything and everyone is on the table.

This deal seems a little light in the return to MN.
- I'm calling the goalie part of it a wash. Stalock is in MN to be the expansion draft goalie, Lindgren would just be the same thing.
- Dumba+11oa seems like too much, but Dumba+24oa seems like not enough. The sweet spot for me would be like 16-19 range for this trade. Add the CHI 2nd to the return to MN and it's closer imo.
- It would really have to be a draft day trade when MN was on the clock. If Lundell or Sanderson is still available then there is no trade. If they are gone and it's a choice of a goalie or a bunch of wings then I'd consider this trade.

Could also land a Dal Colle, every GM sees their draft pick with different value.

Big thing is yes you're boosting your defense right now but KK ain't ready and Poehling ain't ready so you're taking a step back on the offensive side of the puck. I wouldn't make the deal.

Yep its a gamble. Had it been the 2017 draft, I wouldn't advocate it at all since it appeared to be a weaker draft by many people's estimation. This being the draft many refer to as the best draft in a long time, that's a decent gamble to make. You're guaranteed to get at least one of the following with that 11th pick: Either the best goalie in the draft (Askarov). One of best shooters in the draft (Quinn). One of the best centerman in the draft (Lundell), The second best dman in the draft (Sanderson), or even one of the most skilled players in the draft (Perfetti). Of course they could all be busts but there is a decent chance they won't be also. I think the odds are in your favor with one of those players moreso than one of them being a bust.

I think too many people are glancing over Dumba here. Before this year he was one of the most sought after RHD dmen in the game at his age. A 12 month injury riddled period is not the basis for which you should make your judgement on the guy. See Gallagher after that second hand injury year. 10 goals 19 assists.....Habs fans were saying to get rid of him while he had some value because his health would only be getting worse with age due to his style of play. Good thing the Habs didn't do that.

Throw on the fact that you now, replaced the 33 year old Petry with a 25 year old RHD Dumba. You can trade Petry for "X" return, further bringing back assets. Draft the 8th, 11th and maybe if you are lucky another pick later in the round from moving Petry, or a 1st next year at the very least. This team could be very well setup in every single position on the team with future prospects, ready now young roster players and solid vets to round out the roster.

This team is not done yet. I simply made the two trades to show the impact. Nothing is stopping the Habs from adding in free agency to replace Suzuki's lost production this year, if no youngsters or rookies are ready to make the next jump. I personally think KK starts in the AHL but is on the club by November at the latest. Heck they may even offer sheet Dubois or Barzal or whomever. This team could be hella better real fast but you got to take some risks at the right time.

Maybe this deal only happens at the draft when the Habs get a better idea of who might fall into their laps at 11th with that pick. Caulfield dropped to 15th. Its not impossible a guy touted for 5th-8th drops to 11th. Regardless even if no one really falls, they are getting a top prospect with that pick. Hopefully they develop them correctly but thats a another story. wink
