TBL and MIN trade and two UFA no CBO flat cap

Created by: OldmanWebber
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 2, 2020
Published: Jun. 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
IMO Grandlund could be a good fit for the Habs. He can play a center and wing, can be moved around the line up as needed. Gives time for our young centers to develop and mature without being thrown into situations that may hinder their development. His stats have been sliding the last couple years so we should be able to get him at a reasonable contract and maybe a change of place will spark him. He is a year younger than Tatar and a possible replacement if we decide not to re-sign Tatar at the end of current contract.
With Paquette we would get a character guy that will be good in the room with the kids. Also a versatile player that can play a similar role as Thompson did last year with a higher up side.

Post Edit: Was looking at how the following season would look and decided to make another couple moves in 2020-21 to set up the future. Sorry Domi fans. Also added another UFA

The trade is good
Domi 1 year deal is interesting, but I'm scare he tries to do to much like this year. IMO we need to sign him long term around 6M
RFA signing :
Hudon decline that, not enough money
Ouellet want a NHL job, he wont take that, especially for 2 years
I think we need to sign Vejdemo to a 1 or 2 year deal, we'll have a lot of prospect to sign soon : Ikonen Caufield Harris Norlinder Fairbrother etc
Blandisi 1 year max
I dont think they'll resign McNiven with Lindgren Primeau Demchenko
Why sign Evans over 1M if he's going to play in the AHL ? 2 years 925K is good enough

Good job overall

Assuming it’s a one-way contract like it was last year, I see no reason why Hudon wouldn’t sign for $825K.

I like the Granlund contract, although it basically means we’re going to have to lose one of the UFA forwards (Tatar, Danault, Gallagher, Armia) which I don’t love. I think I’d probably rather just sign Kovy to a 1 year contract, and figure out who we’re signing next offseason.

Is Tampa Bay supposed to be paying to move out money? Because other than that, I don’t really see the benefit of this trade for them.

Otherwise the contracts are all good (other than what @GMs already mentioned).

I'm questioning your Laval signings and lines.
I agree that Poehling and KK should be there and the first line with Ylonen can really cause some damage.
But after that I don't see two players who in my opinion are going to shine on the farm ... RHP and Teasdale.

I also think that Hudon likes Laval and Montreal and will resign no matter what. Mcniven will also resign as I feel we'll get rid of Lindgren.

Now onto the NHL roster.
The signing of Domi is much too low. He wants term so the lower you go on the term the higher you need to go on the salary.
Evans is interesting but not going to get that type of salary. Think 3 years at 950k and in the NHL.
Mete signing is reasonable but needs to be longer term as well....min 3 years.
Forget the TBL trade,....we can do without them easily. Neither player makes our team any better than using what we already have in the system.
Grandlund signing is interesting though.

That was my thought with Tampa, It creates $2,550,000.00 cap space, still not nearly enough to deal with their current problems but it is a start. I believe that Paquette would be an upgrade over anything we could currently put on the fourth line and has more upside than bringing back Thompson, even thou I really liked Nate. My thought is Hudon wants to stay in the Montreal area and the contract would be a one way so he is going to get the full amount. I think he takes it. Most likely his last year with Montreal unless he gets a chance to play significant minutes and shows something more than he has to this point.

See I am not sold on Domi yet. First year looked real good last year not so much. I believe that he loves Montreal and could be a good player for us but what is his roll going to be? He wants to play center but I see him as a winger. Last year when he got moved to the wing and Suzuki was put in the middle, Domi spent months pouting and not producing. With Suzuki, KK, Danault all playing in the middle and player like Evans and Hillis knocking on the door I don't see a spot for Domi, especially if his attitude is going to be poor if he doesn't play center. I see this as a make it or break it year if they even keep him around this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets moved for LD help possibly Brodin from Minny.

Wow good job on pretty much everything here! If this happens, the offseason after that would be very exciting with all the expiring deals.

Granlund isn’t worth it. He’s a c who doesn’t take face offs. Paquette at 4c is nice. But if kk is in the ahl we need a 3c

I'd take Granlund on a one year deal to flip him at the deadline but not anything else

KK is the real question mark here. I think it is more than likely he starts the season off in Laval but does finish the season with Montreal. I like the idea of Ganlund because he plays both wing and center. I'm just messing around with different ideas.

Do you think he would sign a one year deal? I am not so sure. Maybe a two year deal.

That’s fine, but at 3c get someone who can win face offs. At that contract no chance

Definitely. His value isn't that high right now and he could sign on a team on which he could prove himself and then seek for more money and term when the salary cap raises

I like the Granlund addition!
He was a great 60pts players before joining Smashville... And he can play at wing as well.
Not sure if Minny as interest on Domi but one on one make alot of sense.
Good job... I think we can hunt for a top playoff spot
