Hahaha!!! As a Leaf fan, I love this trade!!!!! Of course, the Leafs would have to include Matthews in a deal for McDavid... I might insist upon keeping the 1st & sending a 2nd, or little different combination of supporting players instead.

I 100% agree with you especially that we are starting to play really good! I don’t see the big hype with Toronto, their ok but nothing special.

So the Oilers are getting Matthews, a first and a bunch of crap for the best player in the world? Not a chance

Playing better????? Your team is a consistent underachiever and McDavid's ego can not take this losing.

a leafs fan shouldn't be talking about underachievers

the oilers are on the ups. They have a new GM and the team is starting to take shape.

Not only is this offer woefully insufficient, but long term, Edmonton has better chances of success than toronto

Yet the Oiler's still have more playoff series wins than the Leafs since the lockout

You obviously have not watched Austin Matthews play the last 4 years in the NHL.

You can not be serious. The Canucks are building a superior team to the Oilers and Oilers have too much money tied up into two players to actually compete in the NHL.

And you obviously haven’t watched McDavid in the same time period. McDavid is twice the player, it’s not even close. You offer is an insult

at least the two playerss they are paying are the two best in the league. Toronto is paying three guys just as much on average, and only one of those is in the top 10. Far worse.

you are the one proposing the trade. if you think Matthews is this great, then keep him.

It may not be the best trade but when McDavid wants out which he will it is a very realistic trade for the Oilers. You need to realize that McDavid has a monster ego and he is not going to put up with excuses much longer in Edmonton.

He's twice the player???? Yet, Matthews scores more goals than McDavid. Your statement makes no sense.

Ya and Matthews has a huge attitude, if you don’t win a cup, he might want out!

And what do you know about McDavid. They are a playoff team with the same odds of Toronto... he sees change.

You aren't his agent, you know nothing about what he wants or doesn't want.

Matthews loves playing in Toronto which is the hockey media capital of the world and is especially likes it now that he has Marner on his line feeding him.

Kinda. Player value grows exponentially depending on how good they are. McDavid carries more trade value than anyone, and Matthews is in the tier below him. I'm not convinced that Matthews is a generational player in the same way that McDavid/Crosby/Kane/Ovechkin are. You're paying a fairly drastic difference to move up from the elite/franchise guys to the generational guys

You should start paying closer attention to his body language when he talks to the media and realize he is getting tired playing on a sinking ship and hearing the rebuild talk. The NHL actually needs McDavid in Toronto to rebuild the NHL hockey brand in the media capital of the world after covid has destroyed the fan bases in alot of the NHL cities. NHL owners need McDavid more than ever in Toronto, New York or LA.

Why did he sign a 5 year deal?? It’s obvious he will leave after his contract. Toronto just offered him a contract he can’t decline, and he doesn’t want to screw over his next team.
