Not enough value for either team especially not Edmonton. For Steen you’re looking more like 2020 1st + Steen for 2020 Detroit 3rd

this has to be a joke right?

a back up goalie and what will probably be a late 1st for a forward on pace for a point per game at only 21

Both teams say no. Id imagine Yamamoto is basically untouchable for EDM and it will take more than a 2nd to dump Steens contract during a flat cap, especially if youre getting assets back too

I'd like to say welcome to CapFriendly. The best advice I've heard from other member is don't take anything personally.

I think the Red Wings might do it if Smith wasn't in the return. Otherwise, it would probably cost a 1st with a mid round pick going back to the Blues.

One guy said "is this a joke?". That dude (blocked) needs hobbies. Badly.

I'm kinda relying on Edmonton flaming out in the playoffs and REALLY NEEDING a goalie - and Allen put up outstanding numbers this season. Overpay on their side, yes, but I feel they will pin everything on a starting goalie for next season and make a big-ish move.

They have a starting goalie. They need a backup/ 1B for next season - someone who will play 30-35 games for under $3M.

This trade is really bad for Edmonton.

Allen was .927 with 2.15, Kos was .917 with 2.75. Kos is 31. I wouldn't say Edmonton HAS their #1 goalie locked down. Yes, different systems - Blues play a lot more D than Edm. The trade is assuming a goalie meltdown and playoff loss.

Why wouldn’t they then try to trade Koskinen and get a proven starter like Markstrom or Lehner from free agency? They could use that first rounder to lose Neal and free up a bit of cap. I’m not labeling Allen a bonafide starter until he can post good numbers from more than just 24 games. That’s not enough population size for me to buy it yet.

I don't see much coming from a Kos trade, assuming a playoff early exit. Yes, they could go FA. It is just a thought, trying to make the #s work.

It would be great, but netiher team is going for that. Plus, more shockingly, you forgot Vince Dunn.

Steen has NTC. What's his motivation to go to a cellar dweller in his last NHL season?

You can ignore Allen's previous 2 seasons if you want, but I won't. He's proved that he's not a starter but a capable backup; unfortunately he's paid like a starter. As such, and with 1 year remaining on his contract, he isn't worth Yamamoto even with a late 1st attached.
