And while he is busy getting angry and "teaching" Leafs fans, we should probably teach him about the new CBA.

Conditional picks based on a player re-signing are illegal now. Toronto doesn't owe you **** anymore, just like the preds aren't on the hook for 24 mil if Weber retires.

I'm chill as a cucumber.

Clifford was as untraceable as Doughty IMO until Blake screwed that up. Campbell was always available. We have had Petersen and viewed him as our next starter for 3 years now.

It is just annoying. I feel like I am dealing with mindless bot accounts and they are everywhere. So glad I wasn't raised into a Leaf fan.

Clifford deal took place before it so the picks would still transfer I believe. Any deal from this point onwards is illegal tho.

I never imagined Kings trading Clifford ever but glad they did. Such a pleasure to have.

And yeah, there are lots of "bots" out there on Leafs side of things.. Im just trying to explore some things personally and try to have respectfull conversations with everybody. Im a Leafs fan for half of my life (quite literally) and its good, but there are a lot of idiots who are fans of my team..

You and I disagree on a lot, but you are definitely one of the few Leafs fans I find respectable.

Likewise! And I even get Leafs fans being angry at me for telling them how things are when it comes to player values lol.

No. The picks would be transfered in a year where the new CBA is in effect and so the picks won't move, just like how Weber signed under an old CBA but the new rule amends his recap penalty. There is a reason why I brought that up in my first comment.

That's not true. If Clifford re-signs with Toronto, the 3rd still becomes a 2nd. The NHL actually said there are a handful of situations surrounding conditional picks that will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The Clifford situation is actually addressed directly in this article by Pierre LeBrun at The Athletic:

LeBrun: The NHL’s ruling on conditional trades is the right call

Quoting: Pierre LeBrun
And another trade of note that’s clear now as far as the conditions: The Kings have a conditional 2021 third-round pick from the Maple Leafs from the Jack Campbell-Kyle Clifford deal (plus, Los Angeles got Trevor Moore). The pick becomes a second-round pick if the Leafs re-sign Clifford or make the playoffs (which means winning their play-in round versus Columbus) and Campbell wins six regular-season games. He won three. So the second criterion is now toast. The Kings can upgrade to a second-round pick only if Clifford re-signs with the Leafs.

We are talking about pick transfers not player contracts. I believe you are mistaken. If I'm wrong show us.

Under the old system i could not see Dubas bringing back clifford. Losing a 2nd is just a pass especially in the flat cap era. Leafs can go after a cheaper tough guy like Matt Martin or Maroon.

But now with the new CBA we can bring him back without the 2nd going so im all in for bringing back the big red hitter.

I'm 100% fine if we resign Clifford instead. We can't expect MacDermid to protect all the youngsters on his own when he will be half in half out of the lineup.

However what's the point of recognizing you need toughness and scrapper, acquiring one, then letting him walk and having the same issue next season? Makes no sense.

He didn't explain ****. That is an old article.

IIRC that article was from before the CBA was signed. That was different and not what I am referring to. The new CBA, which will be in full effect starting in 20-21 and affects things like marners contract (775k base salary in 2024 but not cap hit) and Weber's cap recapture penalty. Like wise it applies to all other aspects it covers, as well as pick transfers that are now illegal. That is what the CBA says will happen, if there is any evidence to the contrary id love to see it.
