I think at the time a lot of Wild fans did not like the Granlund Fiala trade.

How do you think about it now?

Fiala did not look bad yesterday

I remember posting a ACGM trading Kreider for Fiala and everyone wanted my head. Nice to know my belief in Fiala didn't go to waste.

Steal because Granlund didn’t fit in Nashville, that’s definitely a W for MIN

But Fiala wasn’t worth Kreider so it was a big risk, but that would have been a great trade Kreider vs Fiala ( for NYR )

Oh I didn't care. I knew Kreider was gonna ask for a big deal as an aging PF and I'd rather bet on Fiala's upside. Mikael is going to walk and Poile is gonna pile the tears.

Jones vs Johansen
Fiala vs Granlund
Weber vs Subban ( was it worth for 1 year of Subban ? Maybe )
Hartman vs 1st round pick
Turris vs Girard Kamenev 2nd round pick
Cody Franson vs Olli Jokinen Brendan Leipsic 1st round pick

Poile and Yzerman are overrated. I give NSH the win for Subban only because of the Weber contract, assets NSH got, and the SCF appearance.

How is Yzerman overrated ? In my book he’s the best GM in the league

Yzerman drafted Brett Connolly, Slater Koekkoek, Jonathan Drouin, Tony DeAngelo, Brett Howden, Vlad Namestnikov in their first round who've not worked out for them. Yzerman gave McDonagh, Gourde, Johnson, Killorn, Callahan, Mathew Carle, Valteri Flipplula brutal contracts they are still hurting the team and will continue to hurt them going forward that Brisbois will have to work around.

Paid a 1st round pick for Coburn, Traded Gusev to VGK when he didn't have too. Not even to mention the Lightning's lack of success and him completely abandoning the organization.

There were a lot of Wild fans that hated the trade at the time. The thought was basically "where's the rest of the stuff coming back for (fan favorite) Granny?"

Last night Fiala was more meh than good, compared to how he had been playing before the break.

He still had some good chances and scored the game winning goal, which is not too bad. And he has one of the best contracts on the wild

I’m in the minority of most preds fan when I say it’s time to move on from David poile. With all these losing trades in the end. He just can’t seem to draft a good forward to save his life. And when he did (fiala)he trades him before he’s fully developed. He hires a coach that even one of the worse team in the league doesn’t want. He over pays his players now and gives up to much term for 3rd and 4th line players. Something is wrong with this team and I’m not confident at all with poile fixing it

I was optimistic about the trade at the time because I knew Fiala was talented, but it was still a bad trade. Granlund had some 60 point seasons and Fiala was still a major question mark. We could have gotten more in that deal and should have, so I will always be critical of the trade.

I agree. While the results are obviously very good for the Wild, I firmly believe Fenton could have gotten a 2nd included in the deal if he would have pushed.

Didn't Russo report that Fenton had to be convinced to not add to the deal because he was so eager to get Fiala?

Yes he said that in his podcast and on KFAN. He also said that Fenton didn't even shop Granlund to other teams, he only offered him to Poile for Fiala and of course Poile said yes. I wish I remembered when that was so I could link it but it was probably over a year ago now.

Maybe Guerin can convince Poille to resign Granlund to a 4x$6 deal and then trade Zuccarello for him...

but Fiala is one a good to great contract, younger, and is an RFA after the contract runs out. Granlund is an UFA soon.

I know that, and in hindsight it was a great trade, but at the time it was a bad move because we could/should have gotten more.

Fenton wanted a 1 for 1 deal and to retain on Granlund. Someone had to talk him out of it. He also didn't understand how retaining money worked and wanted to retain a large amount for last season and nothing for this season which would violate the CBA. He was an actual NHL GM and had less of an understanding of basic CBA rules than the average CapFriendly user.

I think you're giving the average CF user too much credit, but point taken.
