He's just a face at this point. Value wise LA should take that. But because he's the face of the franchise like you said, he isn't getting traded.

Imo value-wise LA should consider trade Doughty only for tomorrow's assets...while they're currently sucking near the bottom of the league, I see no point in acquiring mid-6 assets which value will drop dramatically when they have to play in an environment where they're unable to be productive.

Unless they pull something like what Duclair and Brown did when they managed to get higher roles in OTT...although offensively LA isn't that good of a team.

There's also a reason why advanced stats are the #3 tool in evaluating players for a lot of teams in the league. They have many variables. Doughtys lack of production and defensive superiority is the result of being on a rebuilding team where he is forced to play with less than average d partners and a team where he and Matt Roy, a rookie are the best defenders.

What part of Doughtys game do you find most dissatisfying? Assuming you've actually watched him.

Just about all of it I’d say. It’s not fair to blame Roy or Macdermined who have played well.

I think it’s a fair trade. Neither contract is desirable. Marner is younger, and hasn’t really showed up in important games. Doughty is older, but has shown a tendency to dominate in the biggest games. The leafs get better, and with this retention, they save on the cap.

marner is good, doughty is not. Marner will get bettrr, doughty will get worse. It's not remotely close

All season long.

There were times he was caught watching the play due to lack of motivation for sure. However he was also very solid defensively all things considered. The kings fans will agree as I've spoken with many of them over this, there was many times where you can honestly say if Doughty wasn't on the ice that would have been a goal.

Doughty also had the worst defenseman in the NHL Derek Forbort as a d partner for most of the last 3 years. Forbort would always put them in a bad situation were Doughty would have to bail him out.

Doughty is not declining and I'll tell you exactly why. He went through hot and cold streaks all year long. He would get 5 points in 5 games then 0 in the next 5 games. He continued that cycle all season long. Declining players dont do that. They have nothing but cold streaks. I highly reccomend you look at his game to game stats under the game log section on the NHL app or HockeyReference.

You'll see him improve next season and I guarentee you that the year after that, he'll be one of the best defensemen in the league again.

That's coming from someone who actually watched Doughty and the Kings for most of the last 3 years and not someone who looks at a few stats and trusts a computer.

In case you didnt know, this isn't baseball.

That's a garbage statement and you're just acting like a troll by saying it. Marner came off a 90+ point season and again had over a point per game this season. He didn't show up in game 1 against Columbus but although the points might not be there, he's been dominant at times since. & he's not even 25 yet. Leafs would be giving up his prime years for nothing but decline years.

Worry about your own team who didn't even win a game during their round robin. Troll elsewhere 😂

That's a very poor evaluation coming from someone who is clearly displaying lack of knowledge on Drew Doughty.

The irony of this is most Leafs fans who bash Doughty because they can't evaluate him properly would be extremely pumper if the Leafs acquired him.

Remember when the Leafs wanted to give Doughty more than 11M less than 3 years ago? Anybody?

Anyone who wants to get schooled on why Doughty is still a very good defensemen go ahead and @ me.

Yes, please do go at him, he has watched all the games and can give you anecdotes up the wazoo! No one watches games like this guy!

He's not worth marner.

And I'm the one here who thinks Marner is wildly overrated and overpayed.

I think if drew doughty is on a playoff hockey team, he’s a top 5 d man in the league. I think his team sucking this bad has drained a bit of his competitiveness, but i expect that to be temporary.

It wouldn't, those guys make 2 or 3 dumb roster choices every year and another changes nothing.
Also team Canada doesnt have a cap
