All season long.
There were times he was caught watching the play due to lack of motivation for sure. However he was also very solid defensively all things considered. The kings fans will agree as I've spoken with many of them over this, there was many times where you can honestly say if Doughty wasn't on the ice that would have been a goal.
Doughty also had the worst defenseman in the NHL Derek Forbort as a d partner for most of the last 3 years. Forbort would always put them in a bad situation were Doughty would have to bail him out.
Doughty is not declining and I'll tell you exactly why. He went through hot and cold streaks all year long. He would get 5 points in 5 games then 0 in the next 5 games. He continued that cycle all season long. Declining players dont do that. They have nothing but cold streaks. I highly reccomend you look at his game to game stats under the game log section on the NHL app or HockeyReference.
You'll see him improve next season and I guarentee you that the year after that, he'll be one of the best defensemen in the league again.
That's coming from someone who actually watched Doughty and the Kings for most of the last 3 years and not someone who looks at a few stats and trusts a computer.
In case you didnt know, this isn't baseball.
