remember it was not Dubas who signed that contract it was Lou lamoriello. Marner needed an extension and cap dumping Marleau was a must. Nobody could have predicted a pandemic would happen or that the pick would be in the top 15.
If lou gave Marleau more money and less term than Dubas would not have had to dump him.

Well I think people could have predicted the Leafs weren't going very far anyway, but I get your point with the play-in round

im not even concerned. This years draft is deep and Dubas in the 2nd round can get another steal like he did with Robertson than people will find something new to talk about.

Big difference between #13 and the second round though. Guys like Holloway, Quinn, Jarvis, Askarov all likely available and maybe even someone like Lundell
But it was not Dubas who signed Marleau, on the other hand, his deal with Colorado did not work and, in theory, he could trade Marner for a star RD or a very good RD+. As a result, Barrie and Ceci are clearly not the players that Toronto needed.
You'd have this 1st round pick and about $7M in cap space.
i mean that doesn't really do anything though the 14th pick means nothing to us and the cap space lol Dubas clearly doesn't care about it with the contracts were throwing around

Because TO would be in the same place? Come on, I don't believe people are this stupid. What ifs are just fantasy. TO doesn't move on from Lou and what happens? Morons on this site say he would have played hard ball and not overpaid Matthews, Nylander and Marner. Really? Well he did over pay Marleau and Zaitsev. If Dubas didn't sign JT we'd have all sorts of cap space, Kadri and the 13th pick. Really? They would have finished with the exact same record, lost to Columbus and lost this draft lottery in the same fashion? Bull****, every single word of this nonsense is bull****. The best thing Dubas could have done when he became GM is signing Tavares. He had to move Marleau or trade Marner without bringing back cap so essentially futures. Dubas has done good work, it just didn't pan out yet. Who saw the pandemic coming and preventing the cap from going up? All this crap from the gallery is just that. Crap.
he should have paid less, ooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrr hey could not have signed tavares or not overpaid marner
Just that easy. He could have just paid less. What would you have paid to move a 39 year old guy making 6+ million? What do you think Lou is going to have to pay to move the many terrible contracts on his team? Trolls being trolls is this site.
