Bottom 6 and 3rd pairing work

Created by: GloryPlay
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 31, 2020
Published: Aug. 31, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Moved Murray, Bjugstad, and JJ. Added Radek Faksa to fill that 3C role and Derek Grant to fill in on the fourth line while ZAR is out injured. Re-signed Jarry, McCann (winger is the plan), Simon, Lafferty. These all feel realistic to me but I'm curious on everyone's thoughts.

1.
PIT
  1. 2021 3rd round pick (MIN)
MIN
  1. Murray, Matt [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I personally think we get something like a 4th-5th for Murray considering the goalie moves expected this offseason. However after looking over most AGM moves involving Murray I see most people mocking a 2nd for him so I made a compromise of a 3rd.
2.
PIT
  1. 2021 5th round pick (EDM)
OTT
  1. Bjugstad, Nick
  2. Johnson, Jack ($1,000,000 retained)
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
This feels a bit like the Hunwick/Sheary to Buffalo trade from a few years ago. I tend to think GMJR would rather not retain anything on johnson's deal because that, like a buyout, seems to show that it was a mistake and he appears set on not admitting that with JJ. But since this is my armchair GMing I think it's something that would be necessary given the circumstances and I also think it would be a shrewd move by Ottawa to acquire a pick and see what Bjugstad has left since most UFAs aren't lining up to sign in Ottawa.
3.
PIT
  1. Faksa, Radek [RFA Rights]
DAL
  1. 2020 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Dallas may want to move Faksa if hes asking for more than expected with Hintz and Gurianov but needing to be paid this offseason and both being younger. A bit of a pipe dream but I know I'm not the only Pens fan that would like seeing Faksa in that 3C role.

He never said he wasn’t. He signed Grant to fill in while ZAR recovers from surgery.

Dallas isn't giving Faksa away.

Don't think Ottawa would have any interest in that at all.

Is one horrible Murray trade suppose to level out two horrible trades for OTT and Dallas?

I've been saying Murray isn't worth a 1st, but he is worth a 2nd.

OTT has no interest in this at all.

Instant decline. To move JJ starts at a 1st

Yeah I agree but I also never said Grant was better than him this was just a move to cover ZARs absence

Yeah I'd say that's an ideal situation but we've seen bad contracts moved before and they didn't all include a first hence why I mentioned the Hunwick deal

Sorry but I don't quite get what you're saying here. I also don't think we're gonna get what everyone wants for Murray the goalie market is over-saturated this offseason so I went more conservative on that deal.

Yeah that could happen but I still feel like depth helps and after moving bjugstad there was some cap to make a move without hurting them long term

Also the faksa trade was made under the guideline that dallas has used before when dealing RFAs see the goligoski to arizona trade

Considering first round picks are being tossed around like nothing, he’s netting a first

You really think so? Considering the amount of goalies in flux I'm not banking on Murray netting a first. Maybe if he had produced this year he could net that but I don't think its gonna take that much to get him not too mention that with his RFA status teams know pittsburgh has to move one of the goalies. To each their own on this though if he nets a first I'd be happy so I wouldn't complain.

First round picks have been tossed around like nothing recently and there’s a lot of bad GMs around who need a goalie and could be allured by Murray’s Cup Resume. I guess we will see since 99% chance he’s gone, but if Rutherford doesn’t get at least a quality draft pick / prospect after that Kapanen blunder, he should be fired

The goalie market is absolutely flooded and the 2nd/3rd tier will come relatively cheap, not to mention the Murray’s contract will pay him for the cups and not his recent play. With the flat cap, a 3rd is super reasonable. Just because 1sts are being moved a lot doesn't mean Murray is worth anything near that. But regarding this specific trade, Minnesota isn’t in a win now mode and they have a young goalie that needs his shot.

I stopped reading when you said a third round pick is reasonable for a starting goalie RFA

Well, usually you dump your bad players to a minor league team...

You include Bjug like he is a positive point on the trade. He costs to dump as well and OTT has a breadth of bottom 6 C. Include a 1st or no chance in moving JJ
