I guess not. Taking on Pk’s full cap hit is worth Two firsts alone. And Toronto isn’t in the market for taking cap dumps. Then we send over 3 good players and it somehow costs us a 1st?

While I don't like it how it's currently constructed, I do believe Subban has something left in the tank. I think he like most players thrive in certain systems. I would hope that this trade would also include 50% salary retention for Subban but what he is good at is very much what Keefe would want him to do. He's still pretty good at keeping possession in the offensive zone and his skating isn't gone. He's still young enough to have a bounce back season. This package along with 50% retention and I would be willing to take a shot. I wouldn't at all be okay with Smith though. I also wouldn't make this trade unless we have Markstrom, Murray or Lehner under contract as well. And I would want the one who would take a 2 year contract or something.

Obviously I would have signed a better goalie if there was 50% retention on Subban which would essentially give the Leafs about 5 million to deal with a goalie

"Well, if he is not worth $9m, he must be worth $0"

Not really how it works. He is not dead weight...he just hasn't played like $9 million Norris winner. He is probably more like a $6 million d-man (and has 2 years on deal). NJD may give up a pick to cover the difference ($9m - $6m = $3m x 2 = $6m)....but not "two firsts" for the whole $18m owed to him. (or NJD could retain $3m and keep their pick). And the return would then be on what a normal $6 million d-man would get in a trade.

In this case, the package is a little light...the rumor is for Nylander, which sounds more realistic.

More like a 2m Dman... that is 7m in cap dump for 2 years.

That is 2 firsts with no retention.

Your rumour for nylander is worse than Andersen for Pesce 1 for 1. Leafs have zero intrest in subban.

Pk Subban would make Barrie look like jones. Trust me... even at 4.5m you do not want pk. Dermott is much better.

Of course Leafs have interest in Subban...why else would they be trying to obtain him?

But Subban at $2 million is putting an unusual discount on him, and I don't understand why. His play on the ice has certainly been better than that. For some reason, he seems to draw the hate of some fans more than others. He has a big personality, he played for Habs, whatever it is, let it go.

I don't see PK getting traded until his final bonus installment has been paid out after the '20-21 season.

He is an offensive D that brings no defence. He put up 18 points.

No, the leafs are not trying to obtain pk Subban. Bloggers making up rumours are thinly veiled by their idiotic knowledge of trade values.

Its not just bloggers, its a pretty well-reported item that Leafs wanted Subban last year, but didn't want full salary, and are back on that chase this year. And its all coming from TOR side, NJ media saying PK staying. I guess we shall see.

They inquired about him last year with 3m retained. Nothing about the return. Then he sucked even more this year.

Again just because some bloggers are throwing **** at the wall to see what sticks doesn’t mean anything.

I mean why would we pay all that for a bottom pairing Dman when we could have Pesce in a 1 for 1 with Andersen...

I love Dermott and I don't want to move him. But I think PK is better than he gets credit for.

I watched about 20 or so jersey games this year. Granted maybe those were his 20 worst games... but he was bad. And he has had many complaints as a locker room cancer.

50% retained for a 7th is still not as good as Demelo.

If Subban were to come here and rebound I will eat these words but I don’t see it.
