Strong offer. Think WPG needs 2C for him though.

I'd say no if I was the Leafs.
Sure you bring in a better scorer than Nylander, but you become even weaker defensively.

Adding scoring and weakening the defense is the exact opposite thing the Leafs need to be doing, at least from an outsider's perspective.

Why would you downgrade from Nylander to Laine and then also lose a 1st and Dermott in the process?

At least last season, Laine and Nylander had near identical stats. Even if Laine is better, the Leafs are razor thin with NHL Dman so I wouldn't want to lose Dermot. Leafs have a depleted prospect system too, so giving up a first is iffy also. Leafs say no.

Laine 305 games 247 points
Nylander 307 games 221 points

The difference is not Dermott and a first considering Nylander is locked up and Laine is looking for a new deal soon at a much higher number

Nylander played the majority of the time with Matthews or tavares. Laine played the majority of the time with Little, Statsny or Hayes

Laine is not that good. All he has is a good shot. He overperforms his xG metrics by a lot and his terrible defensively.
