This post is in response to my comment on a different thread about another Mantha for Domi +

Making our 1st line significantly worse to make our second line better is a lateral move at best, and that's only if Domi reverts to his 70 point form AND Mantha doesn't improve.
If Detroit traded Mantha for Domi, Domi's best winger would be Robby Fabbri (after his own experiment at center ended). Domi can't drive offense like Mantha can, so he would likely put up worse numbers than he did with the Habs.
If you really wanted to pry Mantha from Detroit, one of KK/Suzuki and Montreal's 2020 1st would get the conversation started. Mantha isn't worth all that, but you'd have to overpay to that extent to even get Yzerman thinking about moving him.
Key takeaways here is that I never said Montreal should even consider that and Mantha isn't worth the package I presented. Teams with the worst offense in the league don't trade their best offensive player for downgrades and futures unless they want to get stuck in an eternal rebuild. Also, This trade is a farce, Buffalo would not even do that if Chiarelli was the GM, and this whole thing is ridiculous. Montreal fans, you're not getting Mantha, get over it, and Buffalo fans, sorry your time was wasted here.
