Trade Mc Donough before Sergachev

Created by: BOLTLOVER1
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 2, 2020
Published: Oct. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Fastly coming to conclusion that it may be tough to keep Mc Donough and Sergachev .. Sergy has been 3LD because of Hedmen/McDonough and Hedmen is PP1D .. BUT wpuld rather keep Serg and resign Bogo/Scheen for cheap again.. plus with Shatty leaving ( breaks my heart as he HUGE reason we won Cup) we lose am offensive D ..

McDonough is still great .. not too many stay at home D this good in NHL. His contract is still good value. BOSTON defense is in shambles particularly LD .. tough trade for both teams and helps Tampa cap situation.. For Bruins would rather have McDonough cheaper than Larsson

Actually don't think it a bad contract.. 6.75M AAV for next 6 years.. he 30 and stay at home D who eats minutes and is the "Defense whisperer" .. makes whoever he plays with better and is great fit with young D . . was Ranger Captain and Tampa Asst Captain .. compared to some other D contracts .. this actually value to me as dont see much decline in his game when 33-35

First, the Bruins aren't helping Tampa and the opposite isn't happening either.

I wouldn't even do Carlo straight up for McDonagh.
McDonagh is fine right now but he'll soon regress and his contract will be a problem for any team. If there's a team that needs to add a pick, it's TBL.
31, 6x$6.75M and NTC, yikes.

His style of play is sustainable, he’ll be fine

Agree to disagree. He is a DFD and signing that contract at this age will make just make it worse. He is already regressing right now so

I really like McD but would rather keep Carlo (who’s only 23) and the pick and make a run at Dillon or somebody similar.

Also, why do people say Carlo regressed? Career high in points, turnovers were down, relative Corsi was up (not that I completely understand advanced metrics) and stayed healthy all year. Still see room to grow too

I think an argument could be made that Carlo is better than McDonagh. Not going to take issue with anyone taking either side of that argument. They’re totally different players. Let’s not forget that the defense only Carlo outscored mcdonagh this season.

When you start to factor in the injuries, contract, and age, the two having even similar value is plain crazy though.

Mcdonagh is just plain better than Carlo and I think it's a good move for Boston. All this hes a defensive defensman is rubbish. Hes had excellent offensive numbers his whole career. His role changed this season in Tampa with sergachev s increased role. Guy had 46 pts last season. In Boston he goes back to top 4. The problem of course is he replaces krug but now you have to replace Carlo.

The only reason Carlo out scored him was the role they put mcdonagh in this season. Hes a way better offensive player than Carlo.

Yes, LHD is a need, but we’re robbing Peter to pay Paul here. Bring in McDonagh and leave a hole on the right side and now your short on cash to sign JDB, Gryz, etc. and as I said, fill the hole you created on RHD, this also leaves Gryz open for expansion. Makes more sense for the B’s to sign an understated D-man or trade for a young up and comer, and let some guys in house push for jobs. These teams are most likely not going to be trade partners either

I mean, carlo’s role was, “back off and cover for Krug so he can take chances.” I agree McDonagh is the better offensive player, but I’m not sure that will be true in 2 years.

People saying mcdonagh will regress are half right. His offence is dropping off but defense is the last thing D men lose late into there career so he will still be worth his contract for a few seasons

Think Bruins fans still think Chara is Captain and relevant.. McDonough would become 1D and wear the "A" immediately.. that D crew is awful .. I woulf take this year to do a do over.. McDonough McAvoy Grzlack and get 3 new guys .. could still get Petrangelo.. Bs in Tampa division and unless they get ALOT better on backend .. max is 2nd round for next 5 years

Lucky enough to not have played in April/May eh... no Stamkos, maybe no Hedman and we got the momentum

If " Carlo regressed " (he didn't but if you think so), why are you trading for him? Keep the best D then

LOL .. you sound like wussie Cassidy and Madchand .. loser excuses.. after Tampa got Coleman Goodrow and Bogo .. didn't even need Stamkos .. Cup was a formality.. Carlo would be cheaper poor man's version of Mc Dounugh .. like Cernek .. would be good paring with offensive D like Sergachev .

Many Tampa fans seem rather "two faced". First they think players will sign at a cheaper $$$$ because of the "advantages" of living in Tampa. Then when they want to make a cap compliant fantasy roster, they think their players will waive their NTCs to play with lesser teams. At least in this post, the trade is one of the better teams in the NHL. So many posts have NTC players going to some of the least attractive NHL teams with cap ...such as Ottawa, Minnesota , and Buffalo.

" Cup was a formality. " That's probably what you said last year and if you lost, you would be crying about " bEcAuSe wE dIdN't hAvE sTaMkOs "

Sergachev isn't OFD, he is two-way and better def than off.
" Cheaper poor man's version " when he's better than McDonagh tears of joy

Enjoy cap hell
