Laine to Sabres

Created by: Whiteout204
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 2, 2020
Published: Oct. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think my trade values are pretty close. Might looks bad in a few years when Laine puts up multiple 50 goal seasons next to Eichel.

By the 21/22 season, Cozens will hopefully be 2C, Namestnikov LW, Ehlers RW and Roslovic back to 3C.

Let the farm team run a first line of:
Vesalainen/Jarvis/Quinn

Turn the farm team into a winner with talent so that the talent further develops into high quality NHL players.

That Buffalo trade seems very low in value for Laine.

Toronto trade is.... fine I guess. I am not sure how highly the Leafs value Pionk (I don't doubt he's a good player but he's very offensively oriented and he might fit the mold of what they would want). I would be shocked Winnipeg would want to move him, considering their depth chart at RHD.

What the heck is that Nashville trade? A lot to give up for a small trade up.

I wouldn't give up that much for Nick Leddy. With the Isles cap troubles you can definitely get him for less.

Now, I know DeMelo (or any UFA) can sign with any team they want. But the Leafs would be much better off, just signing DeMelo and keep their first round pick.. You've signed DeMelo for less than Pionk's cap and term.

They'd consider it, probably not do it. When you're talking about a potential top 6 F over a 50 goal scorer you have to think about it.

You could argue that Cozens could be a top 6 forward and even better, 2nd line center. He’s also going to be on an entry level deal and is our only future at center should Eichel one day demand a trade. He’s basically untouchable. Trading him for a high priced winger is not smart

Hence why I said they'd consider if they took Rossi.

Leafs take that imo. Pionk wouldn't play with Reilly but he would be a good partner for Muzzin. Then we could just get someone cheap and reliable defensively for Reilly

This messes with buf salary timeline too much. Probably a no go. Maybe if you took okposo too but I don't think okposo would waive

I disagree though. Rossi is younger and would set them back a year. Cozens has also already shown that he looks like he may be the real deal.

Laine scored 44 goals in this league. He IS the real deal. Again, I'm saying consider. Not a shoe-in accept.

Good teams don’t invest all their money on the wings. You have to be good down the middle. I’d love to have Laine, but it’s not a fit. Def not for Cozens.

Well if they took Rossi, they would have 2 fantastic centers? 3 if Mittelstadt can get it together.

Yes, but even though Cozens is still an unknown, Rossi is more of an unknown. Cozens is also most likely ready to play this year, while Rossi may need another year. If Cozens lives up to his potential, his value is higher than Laine’s and the Sabres can still keep 8 and get an impactful prospect.

BTW, I’m not saying Cozens will be better than Laine, I’m saying his position is more important. When you throw in his entry level deal compared to Laine’s salary, it’s just not worth it for Buffalo right now. If they had more depth at center, maybe. Rossi wouldn’t be enough to tip the scales.

Ok, great. Then keep Cozens and hope you get Rossi as well. You’re set down the middle. I’d rather be deep down the middle than on the wings.

Cozens and Rossi are too good to play 3C. Gotta do something there.
