"Future considerations" would've been a better return

Value seems about right. Wouldn't be shocked to see Maatta outta the league completely in a few seasons. Hawks fans need to stop overvaluing their players if they ever thought the return woulda been more.

Dang would’ve rather seen a draft pick. Also I kinda liked Maatta but there’s no room and Mitchell is a cheaper upgrade. This opens up about $3.25M of cap space which can be used for the RFAs.

honestly surprised by the value after he seemed to have a great playoffs

good for LA, should be good mentor for the younger guys

hard to look at it as a loss for Chicago, given what the cleared cap is going towards

I think that goes to show just how hard its going to be to dump cap. His value isnt that far off from staal. Staal is better slightly on defense and Maatta offensively, both are realistically bottom pair dmen. At least you didnt have to give up value to move him.

Nah. Based on that latest playoff performance I'd say Määttä is above Staal in terms of level and value. Also his age is a thing.

I think CHI made this decision purely because they had planned to buy Määttä out but this way they didn't have to pay up the cost for 4 years, but only 2. At least that completely random retention amount points to that.

I know this isn’t the right place but curious if it’s been announced what next years cap will be. Thanks!

It'll likely remain the same for the next two years because of covid effects.
