I think if you look at it as moving from 4th to 3rd overall for eating Staal’s contract and giving up half of Athanasiou it’s maybe better? In my eyes anyways. But it’s a deep draft, and Yzerman wants all the picks he can get his hands on.

You are 100% right but Detroit has so few good pieces in place I think they benefit more with 3 picks instead of Byfield or Stutzle. But that is just my opinion. I'm really starting to like Rossi a lot.

I don't think it's the worst. Dealing mostly with draft picks your values can be off but I 've seen far worse.

A couple of sources have Stutzle sticking around past the top 5. Rossi might just outscore any of those three. Trading down a couple of spots could make sense with a pretty even field at the top. Scouting is an art, not a science. Lindholm, on the other hand, is a #1 defenseman, and Iafallo is more or less a 1LW. This team could be pretty good, right away. What I thought about going back and editing in was LA taking Smith, to leave cap space for a UFA, but really, too much work for something I knew would just get torn apart.

That's true but being one the other end like Detroit where you see a lot of ACGM's where teams want 2nd and 3rds for players on the bottom half of their roster and think they are doing you a favor! Or teams thinking they can take your rising stars for their old players on awful contracts.

I'm just pointing out that trading a top-ten pick doesn't have to be a very big deal. I was going to have the Rangers trade down to four and take Rossi, but then I thought, maybe they're better off with a known commodity.

Dorion pretty much 100% confirmed that he’s taking either Byfield or Stutzle, whichever one LA doesn’t take

So NYR could trade down to #2, then to #3, then to #4, and be assured that Rossi is still on the table. Since Rossi outscored Lafreniere in a pretty similar league and a similar number of games, they only real advantage I see for Lafreniere is height. NYR wouldn't have to get very much back in each trade to feel fine moving back. If Det and Ott prefer to give players, rather than picks, NYR could build a third line by doing this, and still get a top prospect. Unless they see their marketing future centering around Lafreniere, which I don't think it has to, they could wind up with, say, Kempe and a Smith dump, Logan Brown and a 2nd, E. Svech and a 3rd, and one of Rossi/Byfield/Stutzle/Lafreniere. If they did get left with Lafreniere at #4 I would laf out loud.
