Why do you want to get rid of Kulak so badly? He seems like a good player...

Too many LDs lol. I like Kulak, but we are too tight under the cap to keep him as a luxury 7th dman, even if he's more than that.

Or you keep Lindgren as 3G and Primeau-Demchenko in Laval. IMO Anaheim should re-sign Miller or claim Dell, Lindgren is an AHLer.

No, but he is already a beloved member. His work ethic is beyond many veterans and hes only going to improve. He will be top 4 for us in the coming couple seasons.

That could also work, but he blocks Primeau in his development and deserves to be at least an AHL starter somewhere.

Its not a bad offer or anything. I would do Gambrell for Poehling.

I don't think I would do it 1vs1, I included them to compensate for the gap between Ferraro>Mete

He’s a good player, we just can’t afford him. It’s much more cost effective to have someone like Juulsen, Fleury, or Ouellet on the roster.

The league is talking about expanded rosters (taxi squad) cuz covid cases are inevitably going to happen, so we'll probably be able to keep extra goalies without it counting against the cap.

It wouldn’t make sense to keep Lindgren on the roster, that’s just wasting cap space and a roster spot. If anyone needs an AHL starter they can take him, otherwise it unfortunately looks like Demchenko will be playing in the ECHL.

I wouldn’t move Ferraro for either of these players. I like mete but I’m not in love with Poehling. I just think with Merkley coming up, and then followed by puck movers Kniazev and Pashnichuk we would have a lot of OFD minded D (Karlsson long term burns too if he stays). Ferraro is going to be a two way I think but he could thrive if he works on specifically being a DFD. If I liked Poehling enough then I’d probably consider it more.

It’s a fair offer but idk how I feel about

    Vlasic - Karlsson
    Simek - Burns
Mete - Merkley (seems like offence only lol)

    Compared to

    Vlasic/ Ferraro - Karlsson
    Simek - Burns
    Ferraro/ Vlasic - Merkley

thats two RDs and Oullet who should be spending his entire year in the AHL, Kulak is entering camp as the number 3 LD until one of Mete or Romanov take that, and Romanov may line up on the Right anyways. That being said depth on defense in not a bad thing and Kulak logged very solid minutes when he was on the ice during the playoff. I think given a compact schedule and more chaotic training camp its going to be very important to have a flexible line up not only incase in injury but with the grind it gives you a change to keep guys fresh.

I think the easiest way to look at things is that if one Habs D is injured when the Habs need to submit their start of season rosters, then Kulak stays. If everyone is healthy, he probably goes.

He's played great for 2 straight seasons, especially when alongside Petry, but Edmundson projects to be a more complete player in the same role, and we need to give playing time to young D like Romanov, Mete, and Juulsen this season or risk losing the latter two to waivers. Bergevin's always big on organizational depth at D though, so if I were a betting man right now, I'd guess that Kulak isn't going anywhere. But if I were Ottawa (for example), I'd easily give up a 4th/5th rounder or more for Kulak (making $1.4mm in salary, before reductions, this season). He would be a decent upgrade to Mike Reilly, just one example. And if the Habs don't move him, I'd be waiting to see which Habs D go on waivers to scoop them up if and when they do. I don't believe the Habs will risk putting Mete or Juulsen on waivers, so that would leave Kulak the odd man out on a hypothetical 21 man roster.

    Chiarot - Weber
    Edmundson - Petry
    Romanov - Juulsen
    Mete

(you can switch Romanov and Edmundson around as needed).

Kulak is definitely our 5th best defenseman going into training camp. The issue is that he makes over $1 million more than anyone else. And we really, really can’t afford to have performance bonus overages. So I don’t think that the difference between Kulak & Mete (who would be replacing him in the lineup) is worth making things harder on ourselves next year. If anyone gets injured Juulsen or Fleury can take the spot on the 3rd pair right side, while Mete/Romanov play on the left side. And while it’s unlikely we’d ever have to use him, Ouellet is still a useful replacement if need be.

Ferraro is a damn gem of a hockey player and human being. Sorry but we're keeping him hah.
