After watching the Czech Republic for 8 periods (vs. Slovakia, Sweden, & Russia), I’d say there’s a chance that Canada doesn’t even make it to the semifinals.

And because of how lopsided the groups are, it looks like #1 & #2 in Group B are guaranteed to win in the quarterfinals, and it’ll be close between Canada/Finland and 3B/4B.

I’d say that Sweden is probably my favourite for gold right now.

Great game by the Czechs. Now Group B is wide open. If we assume that Sweden wins every game (which I’m going to keep assuming will happen until their 53 game winning streak ends) then the USA vs. Czech Republic game on Tuesday becomes extremely important.

If the Czechs win or lose in OT they would be guaranteed 2nd place.
If the USA wins in regulation it’s a 3-way tie, and the Czech Republic probably ends up 4th because of goal differential.

Austria's goalie is the only thing that's right with the team.

I know it's only exhibition, but I did not like what I saw from Cozens whatsoever. Byfield should be getting the most minutes IMO.

Welp guess Cozens decided to prove me wrong. Easily Canada's best player

I've mainly watched the US and Austria games so far to see Boldy and Rossi for MN.

Austria doesn't belong in the tournament. Their goalie has been their best player by far. Rossi hasn't done anything, but doesn't have anything to work with either. It's a lost tournament for him.

Boldy has looked really good, as have several other US players.

Caufield has been a disappointment for me so far. I was expecting bigger things from him after watching him the last year+ at UW. I know the flaws in his game pretty well, but his shot is wicked. His shot hasn't looked near as dangerous as I'm used to seeing.

I love Wraneschitz. Double overager and is given 3 games to prove he should get drafted and is making the most of it. As for the rest of Austria, wtf is this absolutely nonsensical bullsh*t. This tournament needs to be an 8 team. 4 in A, 4 in B, B4 and A4 play for relegation, A1 and B1 get byes. A2vsB3, B2vsA3 and then go from there with the final 4. I can just see all the little Austrian kid’s demanding there parents buy them hockey sticks after watching a motivational performance of their country giving up 70 shots and 11 goals

“We had almost 40 shots and only 4 goals.” - Yan Kuznetsov

Has this guy realized that shooting 10% isn’t a bad thing. He has high expectations.

No relegation game this year. Austria brought a bunch of kids to get experience for next year. 10 teams is fine, 9 are usually worthy of being there and the 10th is hit and miss.

The top teams also get to bring guys that they usually wouldn't be able to because they'd be in playing the NHL; that makes it even more lopsided.

I really would have like to have seen an Austria v Germany instead of the Germany v Canada blowout game that happened due to Germany having so many players out for COVID.

Man, Florian Elias is looking really good. It’ll be interesting to see how high he gets drafted in his second year of eligibility.

Also, JJ Peterka’s one-timer is amazing. Buffalo’s offense is going to be deadly in the near future.

Wow, what a finish. That was the best game of the tournament so far.

Hats off to Germanys 1st line alltogether. Places 1,3 and 5 in points out off all the players atm.
Playing tough minutes in a covid stricken team, and making most of it.

So our matchups are:

Canada vs. Czech Republic
Finland vs. Sweden
Germany vs. Russia
Slovakia vs. USA

These should be fun.

My predictions are
Canada, Sweden, Russia, USA in the final four though Finland and the Czechs could surprise me, I don’t think the Slovaks or Germans stand a chance

Unless Russia struggles and Stuetzle shines, I agree with your assessment.

Well that really sucks. Germany just couldn’t get the bounces. Great tournament for Germany, and too bad they couldn’t move on.

Sweden looked pretty underwhelming this year.

Kind of hoping Finland goes far since Toronto's got three guys with them.

Well the Russia-Germany game was closer than expected, and Finland beat Sweden in a comeback which last time I checked the score they were losing 2-1 with 10 minutes and then they win 3-2 and right after I checked they scored, I though Sweden had it.

Semis predictions: Russia- Canada, close game will be decided by 1 goal, could see it go either way but I have to say Canada wins though for the first time in the tournament they might trail in a game
Finland-USA, if Finland plays like they did against Canada they lose, if they don’t close game but still have to give it to the US
