Good signing by EDM. I thought he was underrated in CHI and never really given a shot in Tampa. From his time in CHI he was better RD than LD. I think this means Bouchard stays in the AHL.

Great signing! Now we'll see if he lives up to his promising stats. More depth is always a good thing and it looks as if this guy can play top-4.

There is no AHL yet, and Koekkoek isn't standing in between Bouchard and an NHL spot. Bear, Larsson and Barrie are the guys on the right side in Edmonton - Koekkoek was signed to solidify the left side.

I've heard mid February start for the AHL, heard Canadian division in the AHL, have also heard the AHL schedule may be similar as the NHL teams so the AHL club travels/plays similar time frame to when the parent club is, don't think any of that has been confirmed, just relaying what I've heard.

So we'll see, I think the thought is there needs to be some sort of AHL season cause these players especially the prospects need somewhere to play this season, there's only so many spots on the taxi squad, Europe and junior/college seasons are still a question mark at this point.
I also think the players association hopes a lot of the taxi squad jobs will be filled with the UFA's that are still looking for a job.

No word yet, AFAIK. Bouchard will be on the taxi squad though - if the AHL does have a season it won't start for at least a month after the NHL season, and there are still border complications that need to be overcome. I believe Vancouver and Calgary have both said that they don't want to relocated their AHL teams to Canada temporarily as it's too expensive. I think players like Bouchard will bounce between the taxi squad and the NHL roster this year - I doubt he'll ever go back to Bakersfield.
