Replace Hyman for Nylander, and the Leafs easily accept.

Hyman easily, if Anderson signed a bridge I may take him due to the potential

Imagine if Anderson had linemates even close to as good as Hyman has had throughout his career.

Depends what you are looking for
As now Hyman is the better player, but IF Anderson become a Tom Wilson 2.0 who score 25 goals, Anderson > Hyman

For now Hyman > Anderson but MTL need more of a power forward than a good overall player

Contract wise, Hyman. In terms of play, Anderson all day. Hyman is a lesser version of Josh Anderson who is a lesser version of Tom Wilson

I'll take the guy who is 2 years younger and has a higher ceiling.

Kind of funny this is your comparison though, guy coming off a career high season to a guy on a career low season. One playing with Mathews the other playing with Boone Jenner, bravo

Agreed. Not a bad hockey player, but someone is going to give him a Belesky-type deal and regret it.

On the other side, Anderson has shown that he can also be good, but (to me) it’s mind blowing that Montreal gave him that contract.

they paid him because it's almost impossible to find guys who are 6'3 225lbs+ who can move like he can.
That's what it boils down to. You just can't find guys like that.

It just comes down to money. Both players are obviously close, but the difference in cap hit makes Hyman the easiest choice. Ask this question again once Hyman gets his next contract. Right now, if we could remove financials from the equation, I think Anderson becomes the clear favorite, but since we have to consider contracts, Hyman no doubt.

He's be compared to Josh Anderson, how is that at all overhyped?

This guy gets it. Hyman is awesome but I wouldn't give him anything more than 3 years at 3.5 million on his next deal because he just isn't worth more. His stats are inflated by playing with Matthews and JT. Is he good? Most definitely but you can't pay a guy for succeeding off the coat tails of better players.

As for Anderson, what a joke of a contract. Paying a guy 5+ million because you hope his outlier season will be the norm after he had a horrible season. He will undoubtedly disappoint in Montreal.

Playing with guys like Matthews, Nylander, Marner and Tavares help, but he is not "overhyped". He is just as important to Toronto's success as Nylander (maybe not Marner, Matthews or Tavares). Not a nock on Nylander. Hyman is just brings things that are unique to the team.

I somewhat agree but the overhype on Anderson far exceeds the overhype on Hyman. The thing about Hyman is leafs fans love him for what he does non-production wise, and recognize that without the stars, he'd be a 3rd line producer. But he does what we need and does it well, for a fair price.

I don't think Josh is hyped. I have seen a lot of CBJ games. When he's healthy and that is the catch, he's a guy that makes impacts without needing help. Be it momentum, goals, sticking up for teammates etc..
Hyman...yeah he's a 3rd liner without help. But Anderson did what he did on a 3rd line role basically with not a lot of "help" around him. Yeah he had some decent guys like Jenner and Nick, but that is a far stretch from anything resembling 1st line players. Josh does the work people don't get credit for, except he does because he did it so well. He'll be right back to 25+ goals in MTL.

I'm taking Anderson all day long. There aren't many players in the NHL that do what Anderson does and he's surprisingly fast. He's a better version of Tom Wilson IMO

Thanks for bringing up his injury season last year! That's the only reason he was available, players like him don't grow on trees and every team in the league wish they had a player like him. You will see what I am talking about in 2 days.
