Probably not enough since management doesn’t seem to think Brown is good enough to play for the Sens (which I completely disagree with). I love Brown for MIN but I think a 2022 1st is gonna need to be a part of this.

If Minnesota wants to protect 7/3 they might accept this, but I bet even if they did they'd get a better offer.

Pinto is way too good at faceoffs to be put on the wing. I would swap White and Pinto.

Yeah it's. wild have made it bluntly clear they will do 4 & 4 if dumba isn't traded. So it's a fact. Wild aren't exposing dumba

Well has the chance of him being traded been eliminated yet?

Right now they should ask Spurgeon to waive him NMC for the expansion draft. Nobody is going to touch that awful contract.

Brannstrom is going to be a pretty good defender, but he is still just 21 with 33 NHL games, let him acclimate on the 3rd pair, and not push him too early.

That 2nd pair LD is a bigger glaring weakness than the RD. Help is on the way for both sides, but someone has to play there the next 1-3 seasons.

Why not? He's sitting at the bottom of MN's d-men in stats. Suter and Brodin have both been better at the eye test and adv stats with Dumba. He was the 3rd d-man best on the team last year. And he has a $7.5m x 6 deal left.

Plus he's the "C" now and it would show real leadership to waive his NMC so Greenway, Strum, Dumba, and Hartman can all be protected.

If he’s exposed, he’s taken. He and Brodin are 2 of the best defensive d men in the league, without question. He, like Brodin and Suter, plays a game that’s not going to degrade with age meaning his cap hit isn’t that much of an issue.

You can not like his game or his contract, but he is unanimously lauded as one of the best d men in the league. As for waiving to show leadership, WTF.

His game is already declining from where it was 2 years ago. Brodin and Suter are among the best defensive d-men in the league. Spurgeon is not near that category and never has been.

I agree that Brodin and Suter are near the top. How do you define what makes a good d man?

Spurgeon is a good d-man. He's not a great d-man. He's getting paid great (top-10 leaguewide) d-man money and term. That, plus his age, is why he wouldn't get picked by SEA.

He's not a guy you can build your d-corps around. He's the complimentary 2/4 d-man that chips in 35p/yr and plays an effective 2-way game. A $5.5m x 3 deal would be perfect. Adding $2m and 7 more years to that he becomes an anchor.

Then where does Brodin drive his value from?

Brodin is a top end d-zone player. He hasn't had much for quality partners (maybe 40 games total with "good" Dumba and Sprugeon in the past 6? years) since he got separated from Suter years ago. You can stick just about any d-man on the roster with him and it's a good 2nd pair.
'
He has more offense than he's shown. He just plays safe because he's been stuck with "bad" Dumba and whatever bottom-pair d-man is pushed up in the lineup due to Spurgeon injuries. Give him a d-man he trusts and he's a different player (Brodin/Soucy pair last year). Stevens was the only coach that pushed him to be more than the babysitter that every other coach has wanted him to be. He's also 4 years younger than Spurgeon.

I think Brodin's deal is a year or two too long, and the NMC is too much. $6m x 5, no NMC, would have been my ideal contract for him.

Well so far, yes. Ask has always been top 6c, or high 1st with top c prospect. This is common sense & also by all reports that Guerin has made it clear he won't hesitate to protect dumba, & do a 4 & 4 if he does get what he asked for

I think White would be the target not Brown for Dumba from OTT. Not a great trade from MN's PoV, but White would get a chance in MN just due to lack of other good options.

Which team in their right mind would give Minny a legit #1 centre for Dumba?
