Ottawa gives up a good veteran mentor and 25 goal guy who will help establish a Russian presence (Zub, Sokolov, help Galchenyuk bounce back) for a 2nd and an atrocious defenseman who couldn’t even succeed in FLORIDA and has one of the worst contracts in the league? I think not. We aren’t trading Dadonov and if we did trade him for a D it would be for one that can actually play defense, not Reilly but with a massive contract.

That sounds way more likely. In a vacuum, he's a player with good skating and the potential to make a good first pass out of the zone. Problem is his insane contract, struggles last year, and the fact that he was acquired when the Penguins had a 21-year-old LD who was ready for that spot. That 21-year-old LD has been the team's best defenseman this year and would never have gotten the chance if Matheson, Dumoulin, Pettersson, and Riikola had not gotten injured.

Yeah, Joseph is really smooth. I've been really impressed by him in the offensive zone, which is much better than advertised.

Miller is also much further along than I thought he could be at this point. That combination of size+skating is going to be a problem for everyone else. Really impressive.
