Graves is the best piece there but we're good on RHD. Compher is a pretty good middle 6 winger but only has slightly more production than janmark so its basically a lateral move. Jost has 1 assist this season and has underperformed on a dominant team. We arent getting any picks/prospects in this trade so its a decline. Im sure Bowman might just be bamboozled again considering the Zad/saad trade.

Hard pass

the idea of the TDL is to add depth not lose D depth in trading away Graves, downgrading bottom 6 depth from Jost to Janmark just to upgrade Strome to Compher
1 step forward 2 steps back type of deal

Toews will be back around the same time as Mackinnon, both around 7-10 days or 1-2 weeks.

haha thanks, but I was talking about Jonathan. I guess it matters just as much to the deal if Devon is out too

Jost has been a beast defensively https://twitter.com/hbfanalytics/status/1357874708381843460?s=21
Strome is a bad fit stylistically for the Avs so that’s a pass from COL

Doesn't it get a bit tiresome for even Avs fans to say, "Jost sucks!" because of his point totals while completely ignoring every other stat and the fact that he's playing 4th-line minutes? It's well past time people stop looking at his draft position and see him for what he has become: a defensively strong bottom-6 guy who can kill penalties and won't cost you a ton of money. Plus, he's still young enough (kid's only 22) that he has some room to grow and might eventually be a guy who can reliably chip in 15-20 points in a full season, maybe even more. Right now, though, he's focused squarely on being a good defender and doing all the little things right and he is doing that really well. The Avs need that kind of player so I would not only not trade him, I'd be sure he doesn't get taken by Seattle. Compher, on the other hand...

Hawks pass. As said earlier, Mitchell and Boqvist on the right side is our future and Murphy has been our best defender, Graves doesn't fit. Strome is also too valuable at 23 years old with plenty of upside still and putting up .75ppg as a Hawk. Rebuilding teams simply don't move young players like that unless they are gambling to get a potential better prospect who hasn't proven himself yet (Newhook).

JT Compher and Jost and Janmark are all good role players but swapping them in and out of trade deal to try to balance Graves (who we don't need) for Strome really doesn't make sense.

That’s the thing he is already that guy. 2 25+ pt seasons and he has gotten better defensively every year. Sure you would like more offense, but for the people that slober over Bennet on this site, Jost is better, younger and cheaper.

What seems to be going on is that they're trying to develop the defensive side of his game and asking him to focus on that. The reason he had some seasons with some points was because they were asking him to be an offensive player and giving him more of that role but they're asking him to fill a different role now. While not great, his FO% has gotten better and he clearly is much more valuable on the defense. To me, this is a good trade-off as they have other guys who can carry the load offensively but they need more solid defensive and PK forwards, especially now considering the injuries to Calvert and, to a lesser extent, PEB.

My prediction is that, once he gets his defense solidly established, we'll start to see some of the offense come back. My hope has been that he would become the team's new 3C at some point - we'll have to see if he can give enough on the offensive side to be that but he is, again, only 22, so I think he can get there eventually. The mistake they made with him was bringing him out of UND too early so they've had to essentially tear him down then build him up again but it looks like it's paying off. The best-case scenario for the Avs is that, in two or three years time, they have Mac, Newhook and Jost down the middle and if all of them are hitting, that could be one of the best C groups in the game.

I don’t know if dropping him into the lineup right from ND was the problem, remember that was right after the 48pt season, the problem imo was not giving him a consistent role like kid you’re playing left wing on the 2nd line don’t worry about anything else, instead they bounced him up and down the lines and from center wing, that’s a lot to ask of veteran much less a 19yr old, but yeah they botched his development because they went from worst team in the league to a playoff team.

That's what I mean about bringing him in too early - even Jonathan Toews got two full years in at ND. They brought him in expecting him to be dynamic and that was just too much - it was the wrong move for him. Hopefully, they've got his ship righted now.
