Making Moves

Created by: JmoneyTalk
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 8, 2021
Published: Feb. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Raanta or Keumper but Raanta is a UFA, makes more sense for the retention. Bennet, just a play off the trade rumours to Toronto (Engvall, Dermott) Bennett is a 4th liner. 4th liner for 4th liner, JJ is cheaper even with retention and will cost much less to extend. 2nd for a possible top 4D. Again, just a Oilers package on a Toronto, Calgary rumour. Mantha was scratched, he really hasn't put up a ton of points, just throwing something out there, how do you value him?

This next section if for my fellow Oilers fans or anyone else who cares.

Nuge doesn't sign until the offseason, he doesn't need protection. Bouchard takes the spot and runs. Bear comes back and finds another gear.

The idea is try to get into th playoffs, the Oilers need to do something with their goalie situation. Mantha and Bennet would help the forward group even though they need D. If this doesn't work then they then make a move for a D soon after or by the TDL. Of they can't find a way to win regardless of these trades they need to do something. Even if they get a chance at a good pick this year (again?) They won't be ready for another how many years? Use that pick to bring in a difference makes on D or rework the D this offseason UFA/trades and sign Raanta or any one else really? They have a ton of cap this offseason, it's time for Holland to make it happen or its another decade of darkness and 1st overall picks.

I know the season is young and spots 3-5 in the north are stil anybody's but let's gooo! Figure it out haha

Mantha starts with Broberg or Bouchard. Likely adding in Puljujarvi in there too.

Call it an overpay, but Mantha has very strong analytics and is signed on a great deal with term. Detroit has no reason to move him for nothing short of something that blows them away.

I think that Detroit values Mantha about the same as Toronto values Nylander.

Just offering my two cents because I'll never see either one of them playing a home game in Southern California.

I agree, he's their second be best forward but that's not a good thing.. that is an overpay.. I know he's worth more then a second and Larsson but he's not worth a top D prospect from anyone. JP thrown in makes sense (still not ready give up on him though)..

I agree he has value to the team because he's one of their best forwards but Nylander is way better in my opinion. I don't think there's an actual trade available for Mantha, unless they keep scratching him and Holland makes a call for an old player of his.

Mantha has better analytics than Nylander does. He's a complete player with size and production while being signed long term on a bargain deal. It absolutely starts with a top prospect and young roster player

I would like to see those analytics. I think Nylander is still better regardless just from watching them play. Either way, there's a lot better players that can be had for that price. If Detroit keeps scratching him we'll see how much their evaluation changes. And again, he's a second line player on most teams, but would he find another great with McDavid? Or will McDavid make him look good?

That's really nowhere near what it would take to get Mantha out of Detroit. He's had a bit of a rough start but some people are severely undervaluing him based off that. He's still an elite power forward that should be able to put up 30+ goals and 60+ points (full season) on DETROIT. A rental defenseman and a 2nd round pick is a laughable offer for him. As someone said earlier, Bouchard or Broberg would need to be involved to start the conversation.

If you wanna directly compare the two of them, the easiest site is:

https://public.tableau.com/profile/bill.comeau#!/vizhome/SKATR2019-2020/SKATR

from there you can look at sites like hockey-reference.com or something similar and look at individual stats back and fourth. Personally I use internal analytics since I work in the scouting industry and use analytics, but I'm not able to disclose those. But those sites should get you started.

Nylander is the more flashy player making more highlight plays. But Mantha is the far more complete player.

I agree but he is the most talented player on the team offensively at least.

He the best because he puts in so much work and he is a true 2 way player and faster. Mantha is a pure goal scorer do to injuries and being some what lazy at times I don't think we have seen his full potential. He has had a couple of streaks where he was close to averaging 2 points a game.

Theyre different kinda players but I agree nylander has more individual skill. Id like to see mantha play top 6 minutes in Toronto with Mathew or Tavares and see what it looks like though.

I think larsson is worth more to EDMONTON than mantha is. Not about who’s better but more of who’s better fit. Edmonton doesn’t have much on the back end of a physical cycle breaker larsson brings that in spades. I wouldn’t do that deal just because of how soft it makes blueline. Nothing at all against mantha.
Flames trade I don’t think I can ever get behind just two teams that shouldn’t even talk to each other.
Arizona deal let’s just see how smith does getting into line up first. Him and kosk provided a solid tandem last season.

laugh laugh Get freaking real, Larsson is a pending UFA this summer and Mantha still has 3 years left. Larsson is also 2 years older then Mantha plus a 2nd round pick is a pitiful offer Detroit easily declines that offer. Anthony Mantha starts with one of Bouchard/Brogerg plus Puljujarvi minimally..
