Reasonable LA trade. They might consider it if Hults or Clague aren't working out.

If leafs could afford it (which they can’t) they’d jump all over this trade

Reasonable? We’re giving away a top 4 D for free lol

I hope Danault doesn’t cost 5M per. Maybe if it wasn’t still a flat cap he’d get that.

Letang’s contract is up after next year, a team is only paying him the rest of this year and next.

And he’s still a top 15 D-men in the NHL when healthy. Top 3 Point on the PP still.

He would bring back more from a contending team. He’ll bring back a prospect and a 1st or 2nd round pick atleast. He’s a top pairing RHD, play-off tested, SC winner, plays 25 plus minutes a night on top PP and Top PK.

He’s still very valuable to a contender. Like I said, top 15 D-men in the NHL still. And hes not like Burns, Keith, Karlsson, or Doughtry and have a ridiculously long term on his contract.

Sure, but $4M for 5 years for a 4/5 defenseman is a lot to take on without taking any salary back.

Yes we have cap but many players to resign. Hyman and Andersen (or another goalie?), and fill out the bottom 6 almost completely again. Plus why r the Leafs (who don't need D rn anyways) trading for Letang if Dougie is available for 8M (and he'd sign here over PIT as he is a Toronto kid who grew up as a big fan (he was in one of the Leafs classic pregame videos cheering them on as a little kid even https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/young-dougie-hamilton-stars-maple-leafs-hype-video/)

He’s only 24 and he’s already a good top 4D man with even more room to grow. Pens aren’t giving him away for free.

4M per year, for a top 4 LHD, 24 years old, signed long term, to a reasonable deal. Find a top 4 Defensman not making 4M per plus( that isn’t on a E-L deal).

I never liked the term "top 4". That implies that he can play up on the top pairing. He's realistically a #4 defenseman.

He’s definitely a good 2nd pair defensemen and better than Sean walker. Also younger.

If Dumoulin gets traded he would be a top pairing D. He plays 22 plus minutes a night. Top pairing minutes. That’s really what top 4 D means. Plays 20 plus minutes a night. The 3rd pairing usually plays 14-17/18 minutes a night. 20 minutes plus is top pairing minutes.

With PO-Joseph playing well, the Pens can(and should) part with a LHD. The pairings would be Pettersson/Letang, PO-Jospeh/Marino, Matheson/Ceci,Ruthwedel.. if the Pens traded Dumoulin.

I'm not saying he's not a good defenseman. Just that the Kings have a decent stable of #3-5 defensemen already (Bjornfot, Hults, Anderson, Clague) that are younger and cheaper. They're not going to give up more than a 3rd to bring in a guy on a fair-value deal when they have guys on team-friendly deals.

Jake Muzzin and Alec Martinez were both making $4M through their 20s, and they're both better than Pettersson. If he was on their level, a team may be inclined to give up more.

Muzzin Forsure better than MP. Martinez was 32 at the time of the trade. If kings don’t want to get MP then that’s fine. We’ll definitely find a much better return than a 3rd round pick for him, or we’ll gladly keep him.

The can't so it's a moot point but I'd wager the age gap and current team needs makes it a hard decision

Pettersson is worth way more than a 3rd. Pens would have better off keeping him rather than trading him for that terrible return
