So, my understanding here is:

Boston out: Ritchie, retained.
Boston in: Vesey+3rd

Toronto in: Ritchie, retained. Roy, retained. Palat, retained.
Toronto out: 2021 1st. 2022 3rd. 2022 4th. Excess Players x 5.

That seems like a lot coming back to Toronto for very little.

Because Engvall's neck is huge, and that increases his value! (Seriously...have you seen how big his neck is?!?!)

helps their cap situation is they lose a 5.3M Palat especially when Kuch comes back

Vesey is basically Ritchie just less physical and they get a 3rd in which they can flip for a defenceman alongside someone like Debrusk at the trade deadline

Kuch isnt back until the playoffs. Salary cap wont be an issue this season. And in the offseason then can work with Seattle for a much better outcome

Umm, no. Ritchie has been great for Boston and he is the physical net front presence they have been lacking.

Vesey kind of sucks.

LOL ya and he was dumb enough to listen to the Hayes family who told him not to sign with Boston because they felt like Jimmy was unfairly treated. Funny enough Jimmy played a whole 33 more NHL games after Boston moved on from him. Should probably thank them though because we dodge a bullet as Vesey was insanely overhyped and a dime a dozen player.

he could come back early and they are getting rid of 5.3 without giving up multiple assets... Tampa would have needed to give up a player like palat and futures if they wanted him gone.

Have you watched Ritchie play this year? He's got nearly twice as many goals as Vesey has points. In a regular 82 game season Ritchie would be on pace for close to a 30/30 season..Vesey has put up 30+ points once in his career.

Tampa takes back $3.225 in this deal, so they really only save $2.075. Sure, they could turn around and waive all three of those guys, but this kind of seems like a bad move for Tampa to make at this point.

Na. He's not back until the playoffs, that's what all the medical staff are saying. "Might" doesnt cause Tampa to make a bad deal like this. Plus if anyone wants to add Palat they are gonna have to pay regardless of cap problems. The guy is having a wicked season still has more value in a cap crunch than what you have here. You're dreaming thinking you're gonna add this much for peanuts.

LA seems to never win on proposed Toronto trades. Kings need to keep upgrading their defense, with the rebuild nearing an end, a 1st to move their best young NHL defensemen makes no sense. Kings are all for retaining one or two years salary for picks, but moving Roy and getting Bogosian for a year doesn’t really move the needle.

Not to compare Ritchie to Vesey, because I agree 100% with you there...but just regarding Ritchboii, as a Ducks fan, I strongly recommend not putting too much stock into any hot streak that he goes on (ie: 3 goals, 3 assists in his first 6 games), 'cause he'll turn around and f*ck you by being as useless as a screen door in a submarine.

I hope he keeps it up, and I love what he brings to the game, but beware! He's the type of guy that will get paid Belesky money, and burn you.

Vesey doesn’t crack the bruins roster. Ritchie is playing a significant roll, much to my annoyance.

Oh trust me, I'm not 100% sold on Ritchie. A good chunk of his production has come via the PP, but even an average Ritchie is as good (if not better) than Vesey.

100%. He was actually pretty fun in the playoffs for us when he was 21-15 GP, 52 hits. Just banging and crashing.

I do wonder if last year he wasn't game ready for playoff teams standards. No offense to ANH, but they've struggled the last 3-4 years and I think what was "acceptable" by the standards of a non-playoff team was below par for a cup contender. He looks like he dropped so weight in the off-season and he seems more engaged, so we'll see what happens. I'm not 100% sold on Ritchie, but if he keeps it up the full season he could change my mind.

Drop Roy from the trade and the Kings might consider it. A 1st seems reasonable as compensation for LA retaining $6M in salary. That's what Carolina got for Marleau. Roy isn't just a throw in.
