I don’t blame tavares for leaving , but he went out of his way to say he wanted to stay with the islanders and he even requested not to be traded before the deadline. Tavares did not deserve any respect , he made his own bed.

No one would have blamed him for wanting out - he even told the media after he signed with Toronto that the reason he requested not to be traded is because he didn’t want a team to have to subtract to add him lol. It was clear he was leaving in free agency, it was never a tough decision for him.

Tbh the only thing I cared about after he left was how he was treated in his first game back. I would have been pissed if tavares would have gotten a warm reception in first game back on Long Island. He deserves no respect so the fact that he had to be a part of an embarassing loss and get sh*t on was great to see.

Artemi Panarin was honest with the CBJ Fanbase his entire UFA contract year. The fans respected him for that. Tarvares was disrespectful to the isles fanbase where the fanbbase cares alot about player's character, evident to the admiration fans have toward Robin Lehner's tenure. This is just factually inaccurate it sucks that a guy leaves its in his right the issue was him saying he wants to be an islander for life etc then refusing to engage in contract discussions until the end of the season.. if we had a competent GM at this point this never would have been a conversation bc he would’ve surrounded him or traded him at the deadline.. this is the whole issue for him with the isles fan base I don’t blame him one bit for leaving considering how bad we were but no one would’ve called him a snake if he said “I want to go home” or “ive been here for 9 years and won a single playoff round I think it’s time to move on”

My point exactly. Complete over-reaction from the fan base. Regardless of how he left, why would a superstar player ever want to play there again? He gave them how many years of great production and great leadership and the fans drag him through the mud because he said he wanted to stay and then left? Players almost always say in the media they want to stay, even if they don't want to.
