Look at the prices that teams like NYR or DAL as a couple examples paid to acquire excellent players to give them the extra push to win the cup. Coleman and Goodrow got what last year?! Now Getz would actually be your 3C, a guy who won the cup and knows what it takes. You’d be crazy to turn that deal down as it’s such an upgrade to your roster that needs to go through far tougher teams in the playoffs to win a cup

The team he chooses will be bidding against themselves, and likely wont be able to fit his cap even at 50%. So pretty doubtful they sell the farm for 20 or so games of Getz.

Agree........I do think Getzlaf has the potential to put the Leafs over the top and win a cup.......my guesss is that he has already been talking to Thornton.

If Getzalf wants to handle the two week isolation, IMO the Jets and Leafs are front runners. He would be an immortal leading the Jets to their first Stanley Cup. And the Leafs, the Cup winners of the 60s are still heroes, imagine being a "hero" for the next 50 years if the Leafs happen to win a Cup. I'm sure that was Thornton's motivation.[/quot
