What I think the Devils will get for Palmieri

Created by: sensonfire

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2021

Description
Pierre Lebrun said this on twitter about Palmieri's chances of remaining with the Devils:

"You never know how these things go at the 11th hour, but my gut feeling is there won't be an extension. I see a trade coming."

The trade with Anaheim from 2015 that sent Palmieri to the Devils in the first place should serve as a rough guide on what Palmieri might be worth or what teams might be willing to pay for him.

Some people might feel Palmieri is worth a first round pick but I don't.

If Taylor Hall is not worth a 1st round pick, then neither is Palmieri IMO.

It is what it is :/

The list of teams that are in this post are the teams that are interested in Palmieri, according to the Fourth Period.

Let me know your thoughts about what a trade for Palmieri would look like and I'll see you in the comments :D

        I don’t think they’ll trade Palmeri 4 times.

Edmonton’s trades have to be cap for cap. If Palmieri was a Left shot they would be pretty hot for him.

I just listed the 4 teams that are interested in Palmieri, according to the 4th period.

        He's only getting traded once.

Palmieri should have more value than this.

This sounds about right, and I like Boston as a possible trade partner. They need offence.

Fitzgerald is on the record as saying he'd prefer prospects to picks for Palms. I think a trade to the Islanders for Wilde and 2nd is the move.

“No more than 4th for Marcus Johansson”
“No more than 1st for Taylor Hall”
“No more than 2nd for Blake Coleman”
“Devils have to pay to move Andy Greene”
“No more than 5th for injured Sami Vatanen”

        Blah blah blah

        Devils fans expect 1st + 3rd, or 1st + lesser prospect or 2nd + better prospect.
        That is probably right.

There aren't many top 6 wingers on the market. Hall and Foligno are the other two. With limited options, Palamieri's value would go up

The problem is, that this year is a buyers market (at least right now). I think Palms likely gets a bit more than this, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they only got this return for him.
I’d love him on the pens but he’d be a luxury, not a necessity. So they wouldn’t pay big money for him.

On the pens, sure. But for teams like the Islanders or Bruins for example I don't think hes a luxury. Scoring, grinder winger is very valuable come playoffs.

All due respect I don't think basing any kind of Palmieri trade off the trade from 6 years ago is a great strategy. At the time of that trade his goal totals were 1,4,10,14,14. Since then he has scored 30,26,24,27,25,8 so far this year. That is a very different level of player and should demand very different value, even as a rental.

No the trade in '15 is what they could get for him.
Had they known what he would do, it would have been more.

Meh maybe the islanders but the Bruins is still kinda a luxury with everyone healthy. The problem with the isles though is I believe they have like no deadline cap space so the devils would have to take a player like Komorov back. Which would likely get them a 1st and prospect for palms. But you’re taking a cap dump back to do it. I think most teams will look for defense depth over forward depth. Pens are one team that would likely look for forward depth over defense depth.
