I think so but its certainly not their #1 style

I think they can not get b**ched around and can throw some of their own, but the skill and possesion game is still the top priority

No. Simmonds being their only tough guy, the leafs will be manhandled by any team that has more than one big body tough guy. Take MTL for example: Weber,Edmundson,Anderson,Chiarot,Romanov(Hitter) that's quite a bit more than the one guy. If I was the leafs head coach, I'd put simmonds with 34 reasoning is it's the playoffs guys get dirty and it ends up getting stars hurt. If the Leafs want any hope of making it out of Canada they should have their tough guy up top protecting their stars.

I don't really care so long as they put the puck in the net more times than the other team.

The Leafs are a puck possession, higher skill team.

That being said, they are physical enough to not get steamrolled. They can hold their own.

And not dirty like a certain team based in Florida (Not named the Panthers)

The habs tried to "manhandle" the leafs earlier this year, badly out hit them. Leafs played through it and outscored them. they don't have to match the physicality but with Simmonds, Foligno, Hyman, thornton and even Tavares. They got plenty of grit to roll with. Matthews is big and he handles himself pretty well, I'm interested to see how he plays when the intensity ratchets up.

I agree. My worry is not the first 2 rounds as Montreal will be more physical but do not have the talent to keep up with the Leafs and the Oilers (or Jets) I think they can handle. My concern is when you get to Tampa, Boston, Washington etc. They all have lots of skill and can bang.

IF the game was called as the rule book states I have no worries about this team. When it gets DIRTY I am not so sure

I'd like to see that too. It's not like he's small, 6'3 over 200 pounds I think... If Jumbo can get in the lineup then yeah he has some grit not a lot. I've never seen Hyman go into the dirty areas on the ice but then again I don't watch the leafs a lot. Foligno yes he'll drop the mitts every now and then. If the leafs can just worry about scoring and no stars get hurt then they are good but I wouldn't wanna be the guys playing dirty Corey Perry in the playoffs. The guy goes for dirty hits on stars.

If The Leafs and Oiler meet, the Oilers will dominate in hitting/agressiveness ect. But if the leafs can just focus on puttin the puck in the net which should be hard with Smitty there but if they can pull that off they may make it out of the North. I say if the DRY line heats up in the 1st round and is hot in the 2nd Oilers would win just based on what it did last year.

I think so. They’re no cup contender in my mind until they make it at least past round 1. But they’re not afraid to be physical when they need to be. Finding a balance between a physical game and their style of play should make them a team who can go deep.

I thought we added vets like joe thornton, wayne simmonds, zach bogosian, nick foligno, jake muzzin, jason spezza, and riley nash to end these silly narratives, no?

Its not about the Size Its about how you use it. (no pun intended)

Other than Simmonds Can you remember a hit anyone else has thrown?

I know we added some toughness to the lineup and we have a number of guys that can step up and play physically. Every single game so far has been a battle so far. Lets hope we see it

PS I have been loving the playoffs so far. BOS/WAS and FLA/TAM series have been great

What's he gonna do? Seriously? I don't mean to be condescending, but do you really think the type of player that would do something like that is going to be deterred by the idea of having to get in a fair fight with Simmonds. They're all big boys. If someone out on the ice has it in their head that they're going to go and lay a dirty hit on Matthews, then that's what they're going to do. Simmonds isn't stopping it. If he's lucky he can grab the guy after the fact and maybe get a few licks in, but what does that change?
