I don't know why people think this is a bad move. Thornton brings star power to a team that lacks recognition among casual fans, and it's a league minimum deal. They probably won't do the same mistake as Toronto and won't force him into roles he is not suited for, so there is no harm at all.

There are far worse NHLers than Jumbo dressed every single night.

I have no idea what Ramparts are, other than being the name of a Star Wars character.

And of course they don’t have the biggest fanbase in the NHL, but when the team is good, fans show up.

Too many people over analyzing Jumbo Joe as always. Even more so since he was a leafs player now brings more hate.

They think Florida or anyone is signing him to be a dominate 3C or something. He’s a depth piece and more importantly brings character off the ice and leadership.

He’s their to win, not to to get 50 points. That contract is just as much as “hey I want to win to win my first cup and you guys want to win your first cup” handeshake as anything.

The Remparts are Quebec's QMJHL team.

They are certainly a cool organization, but the last part is debatable. They've been purposely put in the Atlantic division, although it does not make any sense geographically, because a large portion of their attendance are Canadian snowbirds watching the Habs and the Leafs in Florida.

Thornton's best days as a Leaf were when he was in the type of role you wouldn't think he's suited for. Was on absolute fire with Matthews and Marner. Obviously he couldn't keep playing those type of minutes every night because he's a million years old, but he was completely ineffective when shifted to the bottom six.

IMO his best time was when he was apart of the Jumbo-Brooks-Spezza line. That line was one of my favourites this year.

It depends what you mean by "best days". Good in hockey means consistency, you can have a hot streak at some point but if it's unsustainable it's worth nothing. Probably anyone on the Leafs lineup would have looked fairly decent with Marner and Matthews

Wasn't together very long, but they did outscore their opponents. Brooks was good to watch when he played.

By best days, I mean best days. He was at his best as a Leaf when he was playing in the top six, no questions asked. He was a non-factor for the most part of the season when he was playing elsewhere, except for a brief stint towards the end of the year. Of course playing with talented players is going to be a benefit to anyone, but he rose to the task. Those three had great chemistry and he wasn't just riding shotgun, he was contributing.
