Do GMs normally wait for the last day to match/not match the offer sheet?

Probably. Knowing that I’m going to literally the most boring place to camp this weekend (Kouchibouguac) total chaos will erupt.

Yeah, might as well keep the other team’s cap tied up for as long as possible.

Would Faksa, Dellandrea and our 2022 1st round pick be enough for Hertl 50% retained? The asking price is a top prospect and a 1st. Dellandrea is one of our best prospects and was taking 13th in 2018, I don’t consider him to be as good as a Zegras and Caufield, but I saw an AGM with Brisson and people seemed to like it, and Dellandrea pretty much has the same value as Brisson IMO.

To land an elite center like Hertl it would probably take Mavrik Bourque and the 1st

Is Dellandrea higher regard than Harley or Bourque? Come to think of it he may be better than Bourque

I know, but I really don’t want to let him go. I would much prefer Dellandrea or Johnston, but Bourque is better than both. I’m really thinking about whether it’s worth it or not because we’ll only keep him this year.

I would say Maverick is better than both, but not by much. Dellandrea was drafted higher and played in the NHL this year and was fine. There’s really no big difference between both, the only one is that Dellandrea can play wing. They’re both prospects who could become as good as each other.

I did the math

Assuming Ovi retires after his 5 year contract is done, he needs a 0.4 goal pace or 33 goals per season to beat Gretzky's record

Last time he paced less then that was in 2005 the year after his draft year. He never paced lower in the NHL.

I thought you had to wait the 7 days before matching an offer sheet.

Oh, I thought you had to wait the 7 days before you officially got the picks for not matching.

Yes, that’s how it works. If you don’t match after 7 days, you get picks

So you can't get your pick before the 7 days are up, but you can match it before then?

If you don't decide to match, then you get the picks

So I guess it depends when you make the decision (it looks like it's normally on the 7th day)

They’re probably just trying to see what Kotkaniemi is worth in a trade at 6.1, what the compensation is worth, negotiating an extension with KKs agent, etc. Just weighing their options and leaving no door open. With Aho the delay was just to be pricks because they were mad at the Canadiens and they had tendered on day 1 of UFA. If the Canes waited they could f*ck over any chance the Habs had at getting a UFA while they waited for Ahos decision to be made and then the Canes could still retain their player at the very end, ruining the Habs offseason

Weber, Danault and Tatar were all huge pieces, so was Perry to a lesser extent. You can't really count Danault and Evans, Lehkonen or Kulak as equals. And if you include Poehling/Paquette as additions, Gustafsson and Merrill should count as substractions, along with possibly Kotkaniemi.

Sure, but it’s not anything unprecedented. Saying that this is losing half the team is hyperbole. It would be a better question as to whether other teams that have made the cup finals have lost players as important as Danault/Weber.

It’s been 14 years since we got an offer sheet that wasn’t signed at the start of the off-season, so with these ones in the middle of nothing, on one-hand there’s no benefit of waiting (ie. tying up the other team’s cap) but on the other hand there’s also no urgency.

This is also only the 2nd offer sheet in the last 8 years, so I have no idea how long it took other teams before.

If anyone wants a link to the NHL’s 2021-2022 covid protocols https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/nhls-new-covid-19-protocols-include-mechanism-suspending-unvaccinated-players/

In a short description it’s pretty much be vaccinated or life is hell but you can still try to play

I don't think they're allowed to trade him for a year if they were to match. So trade value doesn't factor in for KK. Maybe the picks though.

I just sketched an AGM for Dallas and it turned out like this:

Hintz-Hertl-Pavs
JRob-Segs-Rads
Gurianov-Benn-Kessel
Kiviranta-Glendening-Comeau

Suter-Heiskanen
Lindell-Klingberg
Sekera-Hakanpaa

Oettinger
Holtby

Gave up Dobby, Faksa, Dellandrea, 2022 1st and 2nd, 2023 3rd, but that team could make a run for the cup.

Confirmed NHL players will play in Olympics but they do have an opt-out in case.
Players would have to be vaccinated to be able to go, if you opt-out of the NHL season can't play in Olympics
