Move MarnerRielly bring in Hamilton

Created by: BigAnderson
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2021
Published: Jun. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
See a lot of Tarasenko and Dunn trade rumours lately so thought a Marner blockbuster could work, shipped out Rielly with a year left for some futures and having them take Holl in expansion. Added some young RFAs who haven’t proven themselves yet but still have potential upside and could use fresh starts. Took Coleman over Hyman because everyone seems to think Hyman wont come back for at least 5 a year and don’t see enough drop off with him to Coleman on a cheaper deal.

Were not taking Dermott, you will need to find an alternative trade partner there.

We have plenty of NHL bottom pairing LD.

STL and PHI trades look fairly interesting.

CHI and SEA will decline easily.

CBJ probably agrees to taking Engvall virtually free.

But I mean if we can dump Nylander count me in he’s trending towards the bust territory

Stan would likely look to move him for another prospect. Im not out on Nylander just yet.

I would like to have marner on the team and I think the compensation is good for him. The issue is that Armstrong will probably never take on a contract more than 9 mill and STL really likes vlady as much as Toronto likes marner. Realistically the best thing to do for Toronto is to ship out a big contract

I know some people will complain about marner's cap hit and poor playoffs but this would be an absolute no-brainer for stl if it were offered. Marner takes over for tarasenko who is a huge question mark; Walman or Perunovich take over for Dunn who is probably getting run out of town anyway (unwarranted); kostin takes over for sanford, brings more jam. IMO Leafs would be silly to give up an elite winger based on a few bad games. And if they need to trade him I'm sure they could do better than this.

I debated on how much to try and get back without going overboard and my biggest reason for shedding Marners cap hit is to try and sign Hamilton.

Gotcha, probably a better approach than trading for way too much and getting called a homer. I doubt many GMs would give up enough to make Dubas pull the trigger so it's a hard line to draw on Marners trade value.

Yeah I don’t think Dubas will move him as i don’t know if there is a way for them to actually win any Marner trade, unless they fooled the Pegulas and GM Adams to trade Eichel for him straight up on the basis of how little actual money left on Marners deal and them not wanting to completely start over again. But that to me seems unrealistic
