This would be a change of trajectory for Buffalo. It at least seems they're ready to go into another rebuild and this doesn't jive with any of that unless they change their course of action.

Regardless of the actual value going back and forth, I feel like we've gotta assume that Buffalo would be one of the 15 teams on Kuzy's no trade list, right?

Dont think Kuzy waives, and hate the rest of the trade tbh.

I would be fine flipping him to a center needy team, but of we are moving our good players, like it seems we are, an older center making big money isn't a positive asset

Agree unless there’s a third team involved. Buf doesn’t make sense for Kuzy and he’s not waiving to go there. But some of the other pieces are good and if they turn around and flip him to a team like the Wild, Kings, etc I could see it making sense.

I don't see Washington being in on Eichel. There are many other teams that have more cap room and better prospects that he will eventually be traded to. I do think that after Kuzy gets paid his 5 million bonus on July 1st that a few more teams that need centers will come calling Brian McClellan and if a deal isn't made this year, Kuzy's 15 team no trade drops to 10 teams next year so there will be a bigger market for him. On the other hand, if he plays lights out (finally), Washington won't be trading him then.

I wonder if there was a way to hook up a 3 team deal, have you guys retain some on Kuzy, and get some decent assets back from the other side? Maybe not the most ideal situation given that you'd be retaining for 4 years, but if someone could make it worthwhile it might make sense. Just a thought.

I definitely feel for you poor buggers. It's been weird to see Sabres fans go through the 5 stages of grief during this process. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

For your sakes, I do hope that you rip someone off, as long as it's not my beloved Ducks.

Cheers fellas, hopefully the pain will be over soon...

Your suggestions are good and would loosen up more deals to be made I bet. But, I can't remember the last time the Caps retained on someone. I think they like the books clean in that regard so I would be surprised if a deal they make has retention on Kuzy.

I meant it from the Buffalo side...Buffalo essentially plays middle-man, retains and flips Kuzy to someone else. I feel like long term retention is rare, but every time I see a Leafs thread, I get a good chuckle because they've been retaining on Kessel for the past 6 years...only 1 year left of that tears of joy

it would have to be a nice return to retain for a long time and to have him be a big part of the eichel trade.

Yeah if buf has to retain any salary I’m sure return would be higher. I don’t think the overall return is going to be as high as most buf fans think though. Historically those trades tend to get back less than the expectation and especially when it’s with a disgruntled star who has a pretty serious injury and a long term big money contract.

Not saying the caps are the best team to trade with due to their relatively bare prospect collection, but I think it’ll be an underwhelming return compared to what I’ve seen posted on CF.

The Sabres would already be taking two years of cap dump Hagelin....

We will have to take money somewhere to make it work. But Kuznetsov being a major piece and then also being retained on if we flip him will require a very nice return on that subsequent kusznetov trade

Why?? Already taking Kuznetsov money off their hands. Take the Hertl trade out and add that return to the Eichel trade instead of Hagelin. Saves Wash 2.8 mil.

The last time they took on equal salary in a trade worked out for the other team...
