All trades would send Rielly signed to term one way with the player on the other side being a piece coming back to the Leafs. Are any of these trades fair/what needs to be added?
why would the avs be trading Logan O'Connor and why would the Avs want Rielly. That makes 0 Sense. Avs dont have need or cap space for him and LOC is a 4th liner signed for cheap. Hes not some fancy stats savant who can be a top 6 player
Yeah. I don't hate the value, the trade just doesn't make a lot of sense from Edmonton's perspective. Klefbom is likely 6-9 months away from returning and Broberg and Samorukov are pushing. Nurse is probably getting an extension this summer - the Oilers just don't need to deplete their scant winger resources for a long-term top-4 defenseman.

He is a lock for out top 6. Our top 6 wouldn't be where they were without Yamamoto. Kenny Holland is probably gonna give him a 2/3 year contract.

Agreed. Everyone in here screaming "Yer not gettin' that for him!" is full of balogney. I absolutely don't get the Rielly hate on here. Guy is a bonified top 4/top 2 dman. Does he have some flaws? Sure. Is he elite? Absolutely. Does he make sense for Edmonton? Probably not.
Does a team pay up for 1 year @$5 mil? Well...they should...he's really good...But, does it make sense for Toronto to move him? F*ck no. The whole "We can't lose him for nothing!!!" opinion is extremely flawed.

i mean if the main piece of the trade they want back is o'connor i feel like thats a no brainer. throw some cap going back and we take Reilly for dirt cheap. We may not need another top 4 d man but we could use him in another trade to acquire a top 6 forward again.
Lots of overpays and underpays are that list. But for a contender (the Leafs) do even have a sign and trade is really ridiculous. Certainly the Leafs would prefer have Reilly for a Cup run.
But please I want to in on the conversation when Dubas says to Reilly. "Thank you for all your Leaf service, but we want your sorry ass outta here NOW. Hurry up and sign an extension so we can trade you. Yeah, we are asking you to forgo free agency next summer, and you will have a wider choice of teams to go as a UFA . But if don't sign, you're welcome back to the Leafs as an alternate captain as we make a Cup run."
As I have said on CF. "Can't think of a logical trade, make it a sign and trade."

I am just saying the trade is weird. Why would the Leafs want a 4th liner for Rielly and why would the avs target Rielly and sign him to an extnetion when they have already a top 4 signed long term
plus with expansion then you could just lose Rielly for nothing
its just weird thats all im saying, not very thought out by the OP

Thank you!!!
There are people saying "oh he won't get this" but the reality is none of this is enough by itself. The leafs take none of these deals except MAYBE Yamamoto, Tuch or Iafallo.
Ducks have less than no need for Rielly, he'd be our 3rd best LD
lol what?
Have to disagree there.

That's fair, I don't think the 2 sides are a fit, but O connor definatly isn't enough for Rielly.

LOC is not at all at the same level at some of the other guys who are on the OPs target list....my guess he looked at his underlying numbers and thought he was some stud and tossed him on the list without really knowing who he is as a player

Yup. But I'm also 100% against trading Rielly. If you are considering yourselves a contender, then you have one of the better LD's in the league. You trade away Rielly and all of the sudden there's a big hole there. Players end up as free agents every year. Contenders don't trade those guys away, they keep them through the season because they're the players that you need. It's a free rental.

Reilly is a guy I'd love to have on the Oilers but it just all depends on price. Can't afford to extend him and Nurse (especially if Klefbom intends to play again) so he'd be a one year rental and not a trade + extension. It'd be different if Reilly played the LHS but that's not the case. Our winger depth is just too shallow to give up a guy like Yamamoto (who will be very cost effective). There's likely a team out there where a better long term fit exists that would be willing to pay a higher price.
The reality is the Leafs would be crazy to get rid of Reilly in their current window and his price tag. You won't replace him for a similar cost so best to keep him as an own rental unless there's something else in the works. I don't see that spot getting filled effectively on free agency.

Ya trading Rielly only makes sense if you can acquire a replacement or someone close to as good.
Sandin isn't going to cut it. Hamilton would be the ideal replacement.

I started reading this and thought you were about to say that LOC is a beauty

Agreed. Honestly, if the Leafs were a seller, Rielly *should* net a 1st+decent prospect easily. But they're not a seller, so I don't get these "tRaDe RiElLy" posts. Obviously I get the whole "If we can get Dougie..." thing, but that's a dangerous game to play. Is Dougie for 7 years at $8.5-9 mil really the answer?

Not at all, hes a 4th liner who is cheap. Hes good at that role and on the PK but he is not a trade piece for the Leafs to built a Rielly deal around.
Avs take the deal and flip Rielly for high draft picks and wondering why Dubas has gone crazy for the trade
Sign and trade Rielly for LOC is a wild thing to publish not his website haha

For sure... Hamilton is a hell of a defensman but for his price tag the Leafs have to walk away from Hyman and Rielly to get close to that. As we've seen in the playoffs, depth is crucial. Hard to say because he got injured so early in the playoffs this year but my opinion is the Leafs would've been a better team with no Tavares and 2-3 more mid-tier players.
