Adjustments from comments of last If Eichel happens

Created by: HatrickKane

Initial Creation Date: Sep. 21, 2021
Published: Sep. 21, 2021

Description
Buffalo fans will say "decline". Ranger fans will say "overpay". With retention it will cost. This was for fun trying to build solid lines if Eichel happens.
Reilly Smith played for Turk.
Strong lines.
Now go ahead and kill me in comments but I think a few picks either way and these trades are doable.

This team needs to start looking at this year harder and go year to year like Tampa etc. You know, the teams that actually win. Tired of not even making the playoffs with what we have.

Why do that when you can keep 1 of Kakko or Kravtsov

You can keep both and find a different elite center then

Exactly my point. If any teams focus is next year, this year will not have good results. Rebuild is over. Get after it.

If the Rangers were willing to do that Eichel deal it would have happened already. Retaining isn't as valuable to the trade proposition as it might seem. Teams can cut other places.

I don't think this team necessarily guarantees a cup. No roster does. I do think this team has a considerably better chance at a deep run though

If he was 💯 it probably would have already happened. If I'm the Rangers, I don't give up all this unless he is recovered and good to go

Now the problem with your team is that it doesn't make any sense cap wise going forward... : P

Neither did Tampa's for this year and they ended up winning this year. Not saying that Rangers win. But at least push to win this year and figure out next year in the off-season. Go for it.

The big difference is the players that Tampa lost were in their bottom 6. You are losing several top 6 pieces doing this.

That being said, I do think that 3rd line in Tampa is what pushed them over the edge from "Good" to "Great", and they won't be the same without them. But still, it's not like Tampa lost Point, which is a comparable for possibly losing Zibanejad in this case

I have faith they will figure out how to keep Zib. Him and a recovered Eichel is a strong 1C and 2C

When has a player gotten anywhere near this kind of return? Healthy or not.

I think Kravtsov, Schneider, Georgie and a first gets Eichel. I think Kakko and a first gets retention. Or there abouts. I would only do this if he is 💯 healthy

I don’t want Eichel at all. Until he plays a full year healthy and we see the neck is no issue, I don’t touch that trade with a 10 foot pole. This team still is barely likely to get a playoff spot as constructed with Canes, Isles, Caps, Pens likely ahead of them. Not too mention the Atlantic likely to have Tampa, Florida, Boston and Toronto making it. I can’t see the Rangers making it unless something catastrophic injury wise happened to one of those teams and even then they’d be bounced in like 4-5 games.

Rangers say no even with 50% retention. That's 5 1st round picks and a backup/fringe starter. Not to mention the 1st rounders include a former #2 and #9 pick. Rangers would be fools to even consider this. Take out Kakko and you are more in the ballpark.

That would be great return for Jack.
The retention kills the deal.
All good teams carry 2 or 3 players earning about $750,000 each.
$2,000,000 retention means a team needs to carry 5 to 6 players earning the league minimum.
I have felt for some time now, if Jack is traded to the Rangers it will be for Strome, Kakko, Georgiev, first and maybe a second.
I have seen an alternative that has Jack and Miller traded to the Rangers for Trouba, and more.
Trouba to make the cap work and Miller to take a spot on the RHD.
But nothing as generous as this offer.
On the other hand, Buffalo may be able to absorb the $2,000,000.
If they keep their prospects in Rochester this year, their ELC's will expire in 4 years, so the cap issue will only need to be addressed in the fifth year.
So while it may seem I am taking both sides, I wanted to explain why the retention is bad before I said, Buffalo would be crazy to not take the trade posted.

Probably Lindros. You have to go back that far. And everyone learned from that deal. Even with Lindros, Philly didn't win it all. Eichel isn't Lindros. And Lindros still had all of his ELC. Eichel is good, but he's not that good.
