Power has more trade value atm but trade value rises and falls, there is nothing to dictate the most recent number 1 pick will not be a superstar in the league at the moment. you dont trade future superstar esq talent for aging vets... if you are comping to muzzin, you would need to add significant pieces to get power as whats buffalo going to do with muzzin? Someone above said you have to also gauge fit which is true. At most muzzin would return a cal foote late round 1st type of player. I dont know when the last 1st overall pick was traded or when the last top 10 pick that was playing up to his ceiling was moved though. Like hanifin was traded with lindholm for dougie (who was the add there, lindholm or hanifin?) but again dougie was a young budding star in the league that calgary didnt want to pay. lias andersson was a bust and got dealt for low value.
LAF vs Eichel isnt a good scenario. when healthy you have a young guaranteed superstar vs a budding former number 1 pick. Eichel demanded a trade which automatically lessens his perceived value.
Kane vs marner, both players are established stars in the league. it simply comes down to goal scorer vs playmaker and what you need and for how long. i feel like marner still holds more value because A) you would have him on a longer contract than kane, B) hes 8 years younger and still has room to grow), and C) kane is 32 and has alot of miles on his legs between olympics, national team stuff, playoffs for almost a decade, etc.
