1) damn, that'd be pretty disappointing if Nick Paul @ 50% retained would only bring back a LATE 2022 2nd round pick. It would mean he wouldn't be that costly to extend so the Sens would be pretty stupid to NOT extend him.
2) Really doubt Joshua Brown is worth anything at all. Maybe a 7th at the deadline
3) I would be literally pissed if the Sens were paying that to acquire Matthew Tkachuk. I know (and my dog knows too), his brother plays for the Sens but this is an OUTRAGEOUS overpayment and here are the reasons :
- Connor Brown is very valuable in his own right for half the price. Sure, he doesn't have the same name recognition and he is almost 4 years older but damnit
Matthew Tkachuk has 75 EVP in 140 GP since 2019-20, Connor Brown has 68 EVP in 138 GP. Tkachuk starts most of his shifts in the offensive zone (60/40) while Brown is heavily used as a defensive forward and starts in the D zone (65/35)

Tkachuk is the biggest profile player but he will start making 9.0+ M$ next year... Connor Brown has a 3.6 AAV and is owed 4.0 M$ next season. He won't cost an arm and a leg to extend
No chance I would add the other pieces proposed in this ACGM to upgrade Brown to Tkachuk
- The 2022 pick will return one of Shane Wright, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Brad Lambert, Matthew Savoie, Simon Nemec, Joakim Kemell, David Jiricek, Conor Geekie, etc...
Just the fact that there is more pieces added is laughable... This package is worth AT least 5 first round picks, including a top-5 one in a great draft

Not giving up Greig and two 1st’s for Tkachuk, let alone add two more good pieces to that. The Sens also don’t need a 2nd Tkachuk to negotiate a contract with.
This proposal is delusional at best
A top-5 pick in this draft is already an incredible piece that the Sens probably wouldn't even give up for a guy who will ask for a 9M$+ contract as soon as next season...
On top of that, you add :
- another first round pick next year
- a guy who makes half the AAV but very valuable in his own right
- a prospect who was a first round pick and who has seen his stock rise since. He is a blue chip multi-impact top-9 player
- another prospect who was a mid first round pick and has had that value ever since.
This is pure robbery
Can't even think about one player who returned as much in a long time. Even Jack Eichel, NOT EVEN CLOSE.
