I agree Ottawa is not quite in win now mode this move makes no sense for them.

You don’t trade with your sister. You trade an asset away from teams inside your division.

A lot of Habs fans want Brasntromm and I understand why but the trade for Petry with his age and his contract hard no.
Even if Sens were in win-now mode they have Thompson, JDB and Zub that can fill up the Right side of the D core.

Mete can RD on the 3rd pair too, giving a bit more time for JBD to be 100% ready. But if Thomson is 100% ready, next year could look like this :

Chabot - Thomson
Sanderson - Zub
?????? - Mete/JBD

I would like making that deal, it's a pretty decent proposal but I'm kinda worried that Petry is also falling off a cliff. Guy is going on 34 y/o. 3 more years at 6.25 after this season could be hard.

However since Zaitsev is going the other way, it makes it very manageable.

Dorion's call! (even if it'd be preferrable if someone else was making that call lol)

Yeah I wouldn't go anywhere near poetry with that age and contact. Branstrom is likely the most movable piece with the highest return the sens have this year unless they get an offer they can't refuse for C Brown, I would think that there is a much better return the team could get for Branstrom and a pick or just Branstrom straight up.

For next season it is very likely that all three of Thomson, Sanderson, and JDB are on the team, so keeping Mete would help since he plays both sides, but you know DJ, Dorian and Co are still going to want some "Vets" around, hopefully, they can rotate some of the current ones out to better help the kids.

I'm liking those pairings for next season. Hopefully Lassi can sustain the play over the course of the season, he's looked good so far in the few games he's played.

I have the same concerns with Petry. It would be nice to rid ourselves of Zaitsev's contract but not at the expense of another boat anchor. In addition, Petry has 3 years left, 7M of signing bonuses left to pay and 20M in total salary. Zaitsev has 2 years left, 4M in SB and 9M in salary. Zaitsev is the worse player but I would like to think there will be a way of getting rid of him without taking on an equally bad contract.

As for dealing Brannstrom, my confidence in him and his ability to become a quality NHLer is fading. We were sold a bill of goods when he came over from Vegas that I don't think he will ever live up to. We are in the situation where we either roll with him, keep him and hope he reaches his potential with us or deal him now because if he doesn't pan out after this year, I see his value going the way of Logan Brown.

Damn, auto-correct I suppose? I really thought you were talking about poetry... I was really confused... then age and contact, I was like is it a dating site? lol

Sanderson will 100% be on the team and it looks very likely for Thomson. For JBD, I think it will depend if he gets stronger. That's what he'll need to do to be more effective

"DJ, DoriOn and Co" might want some vets, but they haven't proven they can target and acquire quality ones so... I'm personally banking/hoping on the prospects to become good. It's our only chance

Mete is young, fast, cheap and versatile. Perfect guy to be the 7th, injuries always happen so important to have some depth

We have no choice but to hope that Lassi can play. It's Chabot 5th season and he hasn't had a good partner ever, outside of a short stretch with DeMelo and Zub. In his rookie season, he played with post-surgery Karlsson and destructed-confidence-because-overplayed-like-crazy Ceci. Even then it was not an ideal situation for a rookie.

I have been saying it for a while, this team won't progress until you give Chabot a partner AT LEAST on Zub's level... They looked extremely good together early but they had to break them up because the rest of defense was not really NHL level. AGAIN for Christ's sake.

Pierre Dorion is a Benny Hill theme machine

Agreed on Petry, too risky for a market like Ottawa. If we were rich and we could spend the money necessary... then no brainer but you take that risk. Unfortunately, not the case. Melnyk has conditionned us to have a small town mind

And agreed again on Brannstrom, I like the comparison with Logan Brown. The only hope is that he brings a bit more than Zack Sanford minus a 4th (which is what in the end? worth a 5th?)
