2 years on an inflated contract >>> 5 years on an inflated contract.

Toews could be moved to a contender in the next couple years with retention for positive value. Price can't

If take out both samorukov and lehkonen I’d strongly consider it.

Your number one goalie is a career 893 goalie. Meaning he lets in over 10% of all shots faced. All research of the last 30 years indicate, a goalie under 910 doesn’t give you much success.

Just don’t see Holland including samo in a trade he’s too close to showing what he’s capable of in the nhl and there’s a lot of questions on the left side in the next 2-3 years.

transition year cuz cap crunch reality and I'm building into a real tdl in 2023 to build a future but first I need a young d-corp to build around. In new NHL you build through blue line.

Take out the 1st and Allen too - the Oilers have 3 better goalies already and Chiarot isn't worth the 1st.

high demand market for d-man for the last summer and now so yeah 1st is a worthy price for a force first d-man like chiarot!

Nope. He's a replacement level player and there are tons of those around.

Smith Allen tandem going into playoffs I’m fine with.
Skinner Allen tandem next year for roughly 3 million. Not saying it’s a strong tandem but definitely good enough to keep in the hunt and around next deadline if it shows to be a weakness Allen contract would be easy to move. Avoid free agency which typically requires bigger commitment. Assuming smith is going to call it quits at the end of the year and kosk decides to move on both I think are likely.
Also chiarot could be an interesting add. I’m warming up to the idea. Not top choice but could be a good fit.

Smith Allen next year means you lose Skinner to waivers
Skinner Allen for $3m isn't happening because Smith is signed for next year.

It just doesn't make sense to acquire a backup no matter how you look at it.

I’m not sure smith will play out next year and as much as I love smith and want 5 more years of him I can’t help but be worried about putting skinner in the same situation kosk has been 2 years in a row. Allen may not be smith but he’s a short term guy with loads of experience.

if you want to protect your core with a great d-men and have a good backup next year this deal is what you need and could be a win-win

I'm not a buyer, so I couldn't care less who the sellers are. Keith could be back tonight (if not, the weekend for sure) while Nurse and Smith will be back in a week or 2. With a 14-5-0 record and some highly skilled LHD and goaltending prospects bubbling under, there's ZERO urgency for Edmonton to make a move like this.

He's not a good goalie though - why is that so hard for you to understand? There's no point in acquiring Allen or Georgiev or Korpisalo "because they're cheap" when they aren't good at doing their jobs.

If the blueline is stronger and better which is what I want to see invested upon then anyone of them should be able to be competent enough to keep us within a playoff spot by next deadline. I just don’t want to see a ton of money or assets used to solidify the position just yet. Simply don’t think it matters until the blue line is alot better.

"Within a playoff spot" isn't good enough for a team that wants to contend though. If you're going to acquire a player, he has to be an UPGRADE on the player he's replacing or it's a backwards move. That's why I don't understand you pining for below average backups/ AHL level goalies.
