Oilers are desperate for a goalie and every NHL team see's the desperation in Ken Holland. No team will be willing to part with one unless the Oilers give up big in a trade, expect your first round pick and a high end prospect to be thrown in a goalie deal

Wrong, this package is way more than enough for Marner and I believe I was getting a little greedy, maybe take out the 2nd and 3rd round picks. I would also definitely take Mason Marchment over Pierre Engvall any day of the week

Devils don't do that. I am a fan of Marner's, but we'll be better off with Bratt and our picks.

no, it's very right. That's not near enough for Marner. Not even close. And Marchment hasnt outscored engvall in the past 2 seasons while playing significant time with Barkov and the other first liners on the panthers all while being worse defensively. Marchment stinks

please tell me how one of the worst teams in the league for the past however many years does not "need" mitch marner, the hate for mitch is ridiculous, he becomes the best forward on your team easily

You're stuck in the 80's, the game has changed. Adding physicality is never a bad thing but it can't be someone's only asset. Marchment doesn't do much well other then hitting, which isn't nearly as important as the things Engvall does well. Zone Entry, Defense, he can PK, etc.

If you're throwing a 1st and a high-end prospect you'll be getting a decent goalie with term. The Oilers bigger problem in acquiring a goalie upgrade is most of the veterans have NTCs (which Mrazek also has).

The Oilers wouldn't have much interest in Mrazek:
-Injury prone
-Had a falling out with Holland in Detroit
-Not a starter and his 2 years of term would be an issue next year when they would have Smith, Skinner, and Mrazek signed with nobody waiver exempt

Gotta think NJD keeps 5m Bratt, those three draft picks and 6m in cap to spend elsewhere than three years on 11m of Marner.
Can't see any team wanting 3.8 X 2 Mrzarek....unless he plays well the rest of the reason.
I'd keep Holl and Dermot at total of 3.5m instead of 4m X 4 years Manson

Devils would want to keep the guy who’s making a 1/4 of the money Marner while putting up better numbers this season on a worse team with worse linemates and less ice time (by about 4 minutes)

Marner isn’t gonna produce the same amount on the Devils as he did with the leafs because Matthews isn’t on his line. Plus he’s not worth 11M. Therefore, Devils rather keep the player who is better this season, significantly cheaper, and keep the picks. Hope that explains it

Better numbers eh? 7 points in 19 more games. Way better numbers. Well we know this conversation is pointless, next you'll argue Marner is worse than Bratt because he's scored more T's in the name column this season.

Since you are jumping on a Habs fan, I'll take that one.

Nobody 'hates' Mitch Marner.

Everyone agrees that Marner is an elite player and would help any team. But Jesper Bratt has been pretty close to elite himself. He started the season off slowly, did little in his first 5 games, was be benched for a period in game against Calgary. Has been man-on-fire since. Its unclear what his next contract could look like, but $6-7 million long term is likely. As you mentioned, the Devils have been a bad team for last few years, so we will need the picks and that extra cap space to fill the holes we have. And we may be hanging onto Bratt for a few more years.

If Leafs were offering Marner with $4 million retained and without the picks, Devils fans would be responding differently.

PS - thanks to @antoine_vachon_ for his comment

Jesper Bratt: 34 games, 32 points (0.94 points per game)
Mitch Marner: 27 games, 23 points (0.85 points per game)
So idk how you get 19 more games and 7 more points
Bratt: Higher Points per game, worse team, worse linemates, 4 less minutes of ice time
Your takes are horrendous. Learn how to do some math

Bratt has a career high of 35 points, marner's worst season was 61 playing with Tyler Bozak as his center at 18 years old. he also had 19 goals that year. Bratt is so over rated

If Marner is soooo much better than him as you said, then why does Marner have less points than Bratt

Well lets see, hes played less games, had an injury and covid.
If Bratts so good why doesnt he have more than9 points than marner when marners had such a bad health year?
