The Shape Im In

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2022

Description
Some tough decisions are on the way but IMO I can't see too many trades before the deadline.
But I wanted to explore some options based on the current situation and see how these moves could impact the cap as the rebuilt moves forward.
(The minor trades for Kulak, Perrault etc. are there because I can't see them on next years roster sheet)

TO will not have interest in Chiarot. He's garbage and can't handle top defensive assignments and can't do anything else so his value is nothing. Some dumb GM may grab him for depth but I there are many better defenceman available.

LA and the Devils aren't buying.
Nashville says no.
I really hope the Leafs don't do that.

In what universe is Tolvanen for Armia a hockey trade?

Did you look at cap hit and think that meant trade value? The only fair trade here is Chiarot to Toronto and I doubt we do that considering the trade history between both teams.

I doubt that New Jersey would trade McLeod for Petry even up, certainly wouldn't trade their 2022 first (likely a top-10 pick) for him, and there is no universe (to borrow @gmgb's felicitous phrase) in which the Devils would trade both for him unless you included your own 2022 first.

Eeli Tolvanen turns 23 at the end of this season and is a bright prospect for an eventual top-6 role in his first full season with Nashville. He's signed for two more seasons at a team-friendly number (which I bet he'll outgrow by the last), after which he's a RFA. He has 15 points in 42 games. Armia is a career bottom-6 forward who has 5 points in 32 games, turns 29 at the end of the season and is overpaid for three more campaigns. You could add Cole Caufield to this deal and I bet that Nashville would still say No.

Turcotte for Hoffman makes sense only if you add Nick Suzuki.
