The type of guys Buffalo should target

Created by: hairyberry
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 10, 2022
Published: Feb. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Solid players who are slightly overpaid on contenders that can be gotten for cheap.
Trades
1.
VGK
I honestly don't know what would go the other way. VGK just paid a 2nd rounder for him, but he's also the most obvious candidate to be traded to make room for Eichel. I think they'd have to take a 3rd or 4th rounder in return.
    2.
    NYR
This is the big one. NYR fans, would moving Trouba make sense? You've got Fox now and even though Trouba has had a resurgence this year, I don't know if he's worth $8m. I still think he would have positive value, but what would you want in return? Would he even be available?
      3.
      EDM
I think this isn't too likely unless Edmonton targets a replacement for him, but he's a guy that I think would strengthen the right side in Buffalo and could be acquired for cheap.

Buffalo has Zero need for Barrie, we have enough offensive minded dmen and that is all he's good for. His defensive play makes Ristolainen look like a stalwart.

Trouba isn't leaving the Rangers, he quite literally forced himself there.

Dadonov we could retain on for Vegas but I doubt he'd want to play here.

Honestly these are all great adds, and I gotta say they could potentially be acquired for pennies on the dollar too. You can make a move on Dadonov this deadline but the other two are off season moves though

Mark Stone is going to LTIR, So moving Dadonov is no longer happening. And Trouba isn't waiving his NMC from a Ranger team that's much closer to the cup then Buffalo. Edmonton would probably just give you Barrie for a bag of pucks.

Trouba has a full NMC....do you really think he waives for Buffalo? (admitting the Rangers might like the cap space). Dadadov's M NTC might exclude Buffalo too.
More an offseason move...Barrie could be traded for cap space. I don't know if strengthens the Sabres though, but if the Sabres on the PP 20 minutes a game, he would help.

Barrie is not a great fit, but at least he's short term, and since the other two likely veto a trade to Buffalo (unless we were to flip dadonov), barrie is the most likely. I don't think the Sabres owners are interested in taking on salary right now, and there's definitely something dubious about all 3 guys. I hope they will take on salary if the pick is good enough, but I wouldn't even count on that.

Huh?? Trouba has been great this year. Is he worth 8mil a year, probably not, but still has been a horse all season.

Trouba would be interesting but not sure Rangers are trading him and that Trouba want going to Buffalo.

personally not a fan of his game. Gets exposed a lot. Makes lots of questionable decisions. Aloof even at times. He hasn't been terrible this year but he's the most replaceable, imo. I'm not as moved as others have been at hits for the sake of hits.

I think that even as soon as next year Schneider will probably make him redundant.

Barrie might be available in the summer, but not before then.

Trouba has 4 years left, I'm not sure that's a good idea for Buffalo. He'd still be on the books when Power needs his 2nd deal and Dahlin his 3rd.

If Trouba was willing to waive his NMC, he could probably be had for a mid round pick or mid level prospect. Just the Rangers getting out from that cap hit would be a net gain.

There’s good ideas here but I think at the deadline Sabre’s Will be more concerned with moving players to acquire picks and prospects...

Yeah the deadline for them should be just acting as a 3rd party to retain salaries. These are definitely offseason style moves.
