Offseason Flat Cap

Created by: YYZ019
Team: 2022-23 Seattle Kraken
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 15, 2022
Published: Feb. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Kraken are in a rebuild, they have some assets to deal, plenty of cap space, and a lot of players to resign.

Rule: No calling up any players who have 0 NHL experience

Let's begin with the RFA's. All should be able to be bridged except for one. Jared McCann is a guy to at least resign and keep around as a 2C and trade later on if the rebuild takes longer.

Now I know I am going to argue that someone will be moved because of the NMC/NTC's but I like to think there's a difference between NTC and M-NTC

Next, a controversial trade but one of the more valuable assets (who has no NTC/NMC) and is wasted on the second pair of the Kraken (as they are not competitive)

Furthermore, Carson Soucy might be able to recoup a solid return from a desperate team. And taking on 1 year of a contract the Bruins will want gone could fetch an extra pick

Another player with value? Jordan Eberle, I think this is a return they could get (with slight retention)

Finally, with the cap space, take on a few bad contracts which are almost over for some picks:
Let's say, Connolly, Ferland, and Kassian

This should help set up the team for proper building (not a rebuild, they're a new team)

Blackhawks are rebuilding. They would rather buy out Connolly to save a little space than give up a pick.

I should hope the Blues would top that Soucy offer right now.

However, Nashville definitely passes.

No reason for Van to do that, Ferland just will sit on LTIR until his contract runs out

Does Ferland even hurt the Canucks though? He's on LTIR, I've heard it does in some ways but I haven't quite wrapped my head around in which way. That said a 2nd round pick way too much. Maybe we could give you a later pick to take Poolman though.

But won't he come off the LTIR, I don't think his career is over

Fair enough, but a second is not enough for Eberle (given that Forsberg might want out)

Im quite sure it is. He's had so many head injuries. We haven't heard anything from him in over a yr and the speculation from insiders is that he is done.

Call this a mulligan, if he is done then he's done, but if he's not the trade isn't terrible

It's still terrible considering how high that 2nd is. Also he is actually a decent player, had he not been injured he would have been really useful. And he comes off at the end of 22-23. Canucks can't be trading picks anymore.
