Trading Sam Girard is not a good idea.

His plan isn’t changing out a quarter of the roster while making an awful Montreal trade

Ottawa also won't accept that Nick Paul deal, it's not enough, we don't want a fringe defenceman that has no place and a third for a guy that is super cheap and good when half retained, it will cost a second + a little bit more to get him.

The 1st should be going the other way in the Girard trade

Sure, you traded Girard for Chiarot, who is mediocre at best, and Lehkonen, who is a great 3rd line defensive forward, but not for a top 4 defenseman signed on a long-term deal (although he is having a down year). Then you added a 1st.

You then paid a top prospect (Barron) and a 1st for Copp (worth around a 1st), Statsny (worth, like, a 3rd), and Stanley, a depth piece.

You then traded a 3rd line forward in Compher for a 3rd goalie in Wedgewood.

Jets Decline
Jets need RHW, not Jost or Ranta
Barron works, but not enough needs filled for the Jets

Gotta agree with all points
MTL doesnt want Girard Anyways
We have LD coming out the Wazoo and we like Romanov,Ghule,Harris with Edmundston anchoring them next season on LD
We however have no RD and Helleson makes sense for both teams timelines as its unlikely you give up a RD further along development wise

Bowers wont make the jump to the NHL so he's got no real value in my eyes
Aman or Steinburgs last 84 days in COL system unless they convince them to re-sign
They'll lose atleast 1/2 anyways for nothing and i think Steinburg could work for us as a bigger Jake Evans type
Not Pieces COL will miss as they push for a Cup overall
But still value to be found for MTL's Rebuild timeline

Giving up all those assets to get slightly better up front, significantly worse on defense, and add a 3rd goalie that (hopefully) won't even play a game for Colorado seems like a bad idea.

Damn, that's quite the steal for Montreal

My only question would be what name do we write on the GM of the year award? Gorton or Hughes?
