Who will Guerin convince to bite

Created by: SimonSelaars3

Description
Before you all trash me, yes I understand these are overpays but if opposing GMs are buying into the McBain hype I could realistically see at least one of them overpaying for him. Darren Dreger also reported that McBains price could potentially be on the rise with the amount of interest in him rising so you never know.

McBain will be UFA in a couple of months if he refuse to sign a contract. MIN has poor leverage since no team will trade for him without previous contract talks.

Yes, i got that.

Let me say again, even as overpays, cool it on the returns.

Everyone says we have no leverage when in reality we have all the leverage, he’s given Guerin a list of teams he’s willing to sign with so if a team trades for him they are guaranteed to have him on the roster vs having to enter a bidding war if he goes to FA.

What part of “yes I understand these are overpays” didn’t you understand?

Oh I read it, but since he is basically forcing Minny to trade him like Kravtsov his value is going down and since he will be a FA in Aug teams aren't going to be forced into paying too much. They will just wait and try again then.

It’s a question you’ll have to ask the GMs around the league, supposedly 24 teams have reached out to Guerin about him.

Well it’s safe to say his value is less than his draft position at this point. I could see someone move a 4th if they think it’s a decent chance he can become a 3C+

Not really, the difference is being guaranteed the player and not being guaranteed the player, as an opposing team you can either trade for him and you’re guaranteed he will sign with you or you can wait until FA and hope he accepts your contract offer.

If I’m Arizona I’ll take my chances to sign him in the summer, 2 2nds is way too steep, they could use those to maneuver around the 1st round. 1 2nd like vancouvers I’m good with, but yeah I don’t think he’s worth 2

That’s not what the media is saying but who knows, Dreger just reported today that his price could be on the rise from a 2nd round pick based on the interest in him.

I don’t think so either but some GM is dumb enough to overpay for him, happens at every trade deadline.

No idea why it’s so difficult for people to grasp the concept of GMs wanting McBain but not feeling confident that they can sign him as a UFA. Half this site just completely shuts down any critical thinking whenever this subject comes up. It’s astonishing.

Yes but if they are already on the list (and they would know already if he would) they wouldn't overpay to any extent seeing as they can wait or let someone else overpay.

It’s the difference between be guaranteed a player and not being guaranteed a player, most the people on this site don’t understand it but it’s not surprising.

Anything over a 4th is a huge win. I’m sure when you hear that 24 teams have called about a guy the natural thought is 24 teams are bidding. My guess is teams asked if he would move him in a trade. As an example Mikeyev for him and a 3rd type of deal. Not necessarily a scenario that teams are high on him but they wouldn’t mind receiving him as a piece to take a chance on.

Yes that’s the point, hence the name of the forum. Who will Guerin get to bite?, as a Wild fan I don’t really care where he gets traded too but a GM being dumb enough to overpay for a player is all too common at this point in the season.

I’m just going off what the insiders are saying so I’m not really expecting anything return wise but Dreger has this to say:

“Action around Boston College forward Jack McBain is heating up. His playing rights will be traded by the @mnwild to a club he’s willing to sign with. Multiple teams eager to acquire the 22 year old. A 2nd round pick has been the ask. Maybe more now?”

GMs become very stupid at this time of year so an overpay shouldn’t surprise any of us.

Yeah I guess maybe I shouldn’t be surprised, but it’s just such an elementary concept. I’m confused on how such a large portion of this site simply can’t grasp it.
