Description
Arthur Staple mentioned on Twitter that Detroit has allegedly submitted a respectable offer for Barzal. Wondering how that might play out. Obviously NYI fans dont *want* to move Barzal, but would you consider this valuation fair?

Arthur Staple was joking, and no the value isn’t close.

I know Pius Suter is solid but how are Veleno and Johansson as prospects? Barzal’s value is nigh untouchable for the Isles, so the value would have to be alot

That is a huge net negative for the Isles. Barzal is slated to the long term 1C, this doesn't improve the Isles at all.

Veleno will likely peak as a middle 6 center, so he's a good developing young guy but nothing crazy. Johansson is the big fish in this return, he's a member of the Wings' stacked LHD pool and even there he's a standout. I think he's our second best LD prospect after Edvinsson, maybe tied with Wallinder, but what I'm saying is that he's a top 4 defense prospect, with top pairing potential.

I still don't think this package would be enough for the Isles to give up Barzal, if only because he is to the Islanders what Larkin is to the Wings and I wouldn't take a deal like this for Larkin.

I can’t see the package not including this years first and Zadina or Berggren in addition to Johansson/Veleno

Suter, as you said, is pretty solid and still young.
I would guess that Veleno's ceiling is probably pretty close to what Nielsen was at the peak of his career. He's coming along.
Johansson is looking solid in the SHL and is expected to be a good middle pair through his NHL career.
The 1st is anybody's guess. Could be anywhere between 5 and 20 but it's also expected to be a deep draft.

As for Barzal, absolutely he's got a lot of value, but I am reading some of these responses and it feels like some of you guys think he's got as much value as Larkin. He may be seen as the Isles' 1C of the future, but I don't think he's quite to the level of a Larkin, Hughes, etc. Honestly, Zadina is having a down year and I don't think throwing him in would do much for you guys right now. I considered Vrana but he doesn't have anything you guys can't add in FA. I am not sure this trade is really *that* far off.

Haha you can't possibly think that's a realistic offer for Barzal.

the islanders trade is pretty terrible if I am being honest. He would need an A level prospect, top 6 center, first and 2nd pairing LD.

Suter = 2C
A level prospect = Veleno + 2nd
2nd pairing LD = Johansson (future since we only have 1 LHD signed past this year)
1st = done

veleno is not even close to an A level prospect. Suter is not a 2C. just cuz you play him there doesnt make him one. is josh bailey a 2nd line guy? no. IDC about the future. out roster is old. we need a 2LD now. there. if the wings were serious it would start with:

Edvinsson
Vrana
2nd rounder

This will never happen. The Islanders arent trading Barzal and Detroit isnt trading Edvinsson. But it would take a true A prospect, top 6 roster player and only because theyre both good, a 2nd before a 1st.

again, this aint happening. ever. so dont waste your time

Now you're making more sense. This is what a Barzal trade would look like.

Do you really think that’s enough incentive to get the islanders to trade their star 1C…you’re acting as if the islanders are required to trade Barzal to Detroit

Not trading Albert Johansson that kid is going to be a stud, He's probably our top pairing with Seider and then Edvinsson with Hronek. No thanks no use for Matt Barzal he's going to be too expensive to acquire.

Albert Johansson is slated as a future top-4 defender. He's currently outscoring Edvinsson in the SHL while playing on a much worse team. He's very solid and has his head screwed on right. He's not the most offensive of players having always prioritised defense but he is improving every year in that part of the game too. He could be ready for the NHL already next season if he handles the transition to the smaller surface quickly. He has a decent shot and knows when to shoot and when not to. He's a good puck handler and passer too. I do not think it's in Detroit's best interest to trade him away, if they do I'll think they'll regret it.

Veleno is a responsible centre that can hit, block shots, and has more takeaways than giveaways. He's balancing between ending up as a 2C or 3C.

You're undervaluing Johansson. He's definitely a very good 2nd pair player that never will disappoint. He's rock solid defensively and knows when to go on the offense and when not to. He has a really high hockey IQ and is very level headed and makes very few mistakes.

Love Barzy. Frankly I think if you could get this deal up, he plays 1C with Raymond and pushes Larks to 2...but the it doesn't make sense for the Isles to accept those pieces and essentially put themselves in the same predicament that we are now. I honestly think you'd have better luck getting Draisaitl off Holland than you would getting Barzal off Lou.
