Quoting: Logan_Ollivier
You get Robertson and a better defenceman for two depth guys that don't matter. Why would TO make this trade? Robertson and Muzzin are both worth more
real unbiased analysis here
Muzzin is 33, and while i don't want go down the same 8 pages of rabbit hole, i think even you can admit that he is most likely going to continue to get slower and less productive as he gets older, and that the Islanders would be the team acquiring him for these older years. his $5.625M cap hit is also probably more than they would want to pay for their LD2 in this situation.
Robertson looks like a great offensive talent...when he's on the ice. He's had two pro seasons and missed significant time in both, which is kind of a red flag for a small forward like him, wouldn't you think? Not saying he can't get past those issues and become a strong player, but that he's not a slam-dunk top 6 guy as it stands right now.
As far as the Islanders side:
Trading Beauvillier for anything this offseason would be selling low. He came into this year shooting 12.9% and has seen that drop to 7.9%; seeing as you argued against small sample sizes earlier in this thread, I think you'd agree that we should value him more on the 300+ career games before this season than his 60ish this year.
I've had the Mayfield argument with TML fans too many times at this point, so I'll try and keep it brief: he's spent 60% of his even strength ice time on the top pair, his possession numbers are better than the rest of the roster while doing that, and he's signed for next year at a steal ($1.45M). Him being behind Pulock & Dobson on the depth chart is more a testament to how good those players are than an indictment of his play - he would be a positive asset for nearly every team in the league looking for a strong, physical RHD with playoff experience. He's also someone the Islanders would be fine keeping next year and having a strong group of RD who are familiar with the Trotz system. He doesn't *need* to be moved, so it's gotta be a big deal to get him off the Island.
