    Was this a breakout season?

If it was, he’s not taking $1.5M.

a breakout season for him. Nothing calder worthy, but for a guy who was a fringe NHLer for a couple years this is good for him. Idk what he would make but it wouldn't be much more than 1.5

Well, ya, but you signed him for 1.5

The thing that i always see here, particularly with the leafs is one of the young d men being, “ready,” for top four ice time…but paying him like a 7.

i don't think the Leafs have a choice whether they're "ready" or not, ya know? I still don't think Liljegren and Sandin are proven top 4 guys, but they kinda have to be to help with the cap

Lol I love how any Leaf has an injury and they are now cap dumps. Matthews will get a cold and then it'll cost them a top prospect and a 1st to move him because he won't have value anymore. Muzzin has value without a doubt

1.5 for a guy just establishing himself is a pretty normal. He won't get more. Likely 2 years, Sandin not much more if any.

You only see what you want to see and it's always something along the lines of "the leafs suck and all their players are crap".

It's nonsense on this site. No matter what happens, the leaf players are overrated and suck. Matthews is overrated because he makes scoring goals too easy. He's a cap dump now.

That isn’t remotely fair to the Islanders. This might be the worst trade proposal I’ve seen in my entire life.

Example number 10,000 of you wanting to be defensive. Where did i say liljegren was bad?

I just said if players are good, they have to be paid appropriately. Do you disagree with that, kiddo?

You are such a sad troll. It must kill you to see the Leafs ahead in the standings. Just spending your time telling us all our players suck but also need to make major money so they have to leave.

Is it a reading issue, or is there just something broken in your brain, that tells you to believe that everyone is against you?

Risto is 6 years younger and wasn't coming off another concussion when he was traded, so he's not the best comp. That being said, Muzzin does have some value, and I'd honestly say that even though I don't think I'd pull the trigger on this one, I can see where the logic is on this one. Muzzin fills a need for the Islanders on LD, and Mayfield is the perfect kind of player to flip for a young asset. My big problems are that you'd be selling low on Beauvillier (dude came in to this season shooting 12.9% for his career and is only scoring on 7.9% of his shots this year) and that Robertson isn't who I'd want out of TML - he's small and already has a sizable injury history since turning pro, which is a major red flag for me.

ill be laughing all the way to the draft lottery because losing two of our biggest pieces for bad players will do that to us

He's a rookie who is just now getting his feet wet in the NHL. He's been looking really good, but it's still a limited sample size. RFA with no arbitration rights.

Leafs signed Dermott under similar conditions to a 1 year, 900K contract, before signing him to a multi year deal the following year for 1.2M.

1.5M, is likely generous, given the circumstances.

Does the Canadian healthcare system provide free psychiatric care for Maple Leafs fans? Because there is no way this dude could pass a psych eval.

Things have changed a bit, and i don’t think that’s an apt comparison. He’s a rookie by Calder standards, but it is his third year getting NHL games.

I’m not saying that he’s not a top four guy, and I’m not saying that 1.5M is unreasonable. I’m saying that those two ideas are mutually exclusive.

Yeah he doesn’t have value cause he’s a terrible player on an even worse contract. Also Muzzin has a full NTC so you can’t trade him even if you want to.

He has only played 13 NHL games prior to this year. You are probably correct that it's not an apt comparison, because Dermott actually had more experience.

lmao - Jake Muzzin has had a couple injury issues, and he wasn't as good as his elite season last year, but his impacts on the ice have been very good. Essentially the same as his first two seasons with us. The difference this year is the on-ice sv% and sh% when he's on the ice has dropped dramatically (otherwise known as PDO).

Jake Muzzin has been so bad this year it makes me feel better about Zdeno Chara.
